A quaint in that spoils you!

From the moment you enter the door to the moment you leave you are spoiled. The innkeepers are there 24-7, are willing to share all their knowledge of the area, have outstanding sense of humor and project the love of innkeeping. Fresh homebaked cookies await your return at the end of the day or for a snack, and the breakfasts are fabulous. A geat Inn with fabulous hosts

Artistry, History, Attention

It's hard to imagine that an Olde World hostelry like this could be waiting for travelers in modern times.... From the moment we received our personal welcome through these beautiful doors, the artistry, attention to detail, and historic charm told us that this would be a place like none other. It was true! We slept in greatest comfort, and awoke refreshed and enriched, to a gourmet breakfast surrounded by sculptures, sunlight, and a wonderful viewpoint over the historic Mohawk Valley. This is truly a place to be inspired and energized. The talents, vision, and care of our exceptional hosts were perfectly matched to the natural beauty of the site, and etched a lasting place in our memories of the Historic Mohawk Valley. We will definitely find a reason to return to the Portobello Inn.

Exquisite Top to Bottom

This ultra welcoming Inn is gracious in every way....from the lovely appointments in every room to the generosity of our hosts to the delicious and nourishing foods we were served, this is a winning destination for all those who seek renewal of body, mind and spirit. My partner and I were served up a sanctuary of peace that was punctuated with steady breezes moving through the luscious, green valley. And there is a river to swim in to boot....or just stand by, listen to the current and gaze into your lover's eyes and behold the magic of this masterfully tended to Inn. We thank you for welcoming us into your 'home'.

One Fantastic Night

From the moment I called Roland, Innkeeper, to the momment he let us into his Inn, I knew we found a hit! This Inn is beyond anything we had imagined. Our king size room, had all we needed and more. The breakfast table was a work of art. The food, simply delicious. Fresh fruit, key lime muffines, french toast and bacon, all melted in our mouths. The antiques that it all was served on, were spectacular. The touches this Inn has, cannot be matched. Every detail was taken care of. We also enjoyed Steve as we talked to him about dinner on the eve we were there. We talked to him in the am, and he was most engaging. We cannot wait to go back, for a longer period of time. What a wonderful experience!

My partner and I recently had the opportunity to stay at this fine inn, and are so glad we did! The rooms were beautifully appointed, and the service from the inn keepers was not to be believed. This inn is spotless! Rooms were VERY clean, the amenities were plentiful. Inn keeper Roland was very sensitive to dietary issues, and made sure our daily breakfast was to our liking. Roland, Steve and Howard made sure that we wanted for nothing, and went out of their way to ensure our stay there were be an enjoyable one. We can't wait to go back!

hidden treasure

We had a clean, comfortable room. Our host was friendly, welcoming and helpful. The breakfast was great and provision was made for our dietary needs. The house is beautiful and quite interesting. We would strongly recommend staying here.

A surprise in Central NY

Roland makes the B&B a home. We always felt welcome, especially so as he tailored our breakfast with little guidance and total creativity. The room was very spacious and comfortable. The one possible negative is the several trains that pass nearby, although a minor annoyance. A ton to do in the area (which is beautiful in Oct), so we'll be going back to finish up and to enjoy Roland's hospitality.

A Hidden Gem!

We just can't say enough good things about our stay at The Portobello Inn B & B this past w/e. Roland greeted us immediately upon our arrival and made us feel right at home. The two rooms we had booked were as clean as clean could be, and very cool, which was much appreciated by us after driving almost 5 hrs on a very hot, humid August day! Bed, chairs and loveseat in the rooms were so very comfy! Breakfast in the AM was beyond compare....fresh fruit salad, sliced watermelon, homemade blueberry coffee cake (to die for), and a fresh vegetable/cheese quiche-like dish, as well as coffee, and a variety of juices to choose from. We dined with the other couples who were staying that w/e, and had an enjoyable conversation. Roland and Steve joined us at breakfast, answering all of our questions about the history of the house and locale. It was a true history lesson! We all, including our twenty-something sons, thoroughly enjoyed our chat over breakfast. We just can't say enough good things about our stay! Not a single complaint - not even about the trains! We didn't even notice them after hearing the first one! WE will return in a heartbeat if we are ever back in the area!

Mohawk Valley Gem

We chose this Inn because the brochure said that Innkeeper was extremely knowledgeable about the history of the area and we were in Herkimer to do genealogy research. Steve’s knowledge exceeded my expectations. The bonus was that Roland’s breakfasts were wonderful, our room with the fireplace was cozy, especially after the unexpected snowfall, and the historical home with the beautiful antiques and nooks for contemplative reading was wonderful. You couldn't ask for more attentive, gracious hosts then Roland and Steve. They directed us to the area’s charming restaurants and more historical sites then we could visit on our short trip. We will be back another time to take in the beauty of the Mohawk Valley and the hospitality of the innkeepers. Pat Kessler Minneapolis MN
