Located just 20 miles from Charlottesville and in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Nelson County, Afton is a rural and peaceful locality with so much to offer. Not only is Afton home to three outstanding wineries of its own -- Afton Mountain Vineyards, Cardinal Point Winery and Veritas Vineyard & Winery - there are many more great wineries within just a few miles. Beer lovers have their own reason to visit Afton. Here you'll find Blue Mountain Brewery, along with 3 other microbreweries within just a short drive, including Devils Backbone Brewing Company. Outdoor enthusiasts will have your own reasons for loving Afton. It's just a few short miles East of Rockfish Gap, where you can turn north and enter picturesque Skyline Drive and Shenandoah National Park, or turn south and travel the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway. Whichever direction you head, you'll find breathtaking views of the valleys below, hikes and natural wonders of all kinds, including Humpback Rocks and Crabtree Falls. And for winter sports lovers, you'll find some of the East Coast's best skiing, snowboarding and tubing at nearby Wintergreen Resort. Afton also serves as a great hub for exploring the other great sites and activities the area has to offer. Within 30 minutes are Thomas Jefferson's Monticello, James Monroe's Ash Lawn Highland, and the University of Virginia in Charlottesville to the East.
