Back in Time
This inn is the closest thing you can get to the historic charms of yesteryear. It was so nice and quiet without the hustle and bustle of all the chain hotels. We were the only guest, just missing ice and snow. SO we were treated like royalty! The innkeeper and staff served as our guides to the area and gave us valuable info on charming cafes and eateries. We enjoyed the food for breakfast and a lovely dinner there. The area has many good things to do and places to visit. I can't wait to go back to take our grandchildren for the experience of the simple life.

Wonderful Place - Step Back in Time
I highly recommend this place if you are in need of relaxation. No TV, radio or clock in the rooms. Absolutely wonderful library, sitting areas, front porch with rockers to enjoy the gorgeous mountain views. They sell local artist items which are very reasonably priced. And the food served at the restaurant is outstanding. I will be back!

Go back in time to this lovely loca
Beautiful location in the mountains, cool fresh air, lovely view off the porch in the morning from the rockers, watching the sun come up over the ridge. Rooms are quaint not fancy (we had the least expensive) with some original door hardware, faucets you have to hold to keep flowing, basic shower nozzles. No TVs--thank you! Rooms on the lower floors are somewhat noisy with people walking around on the wooden floors, so I'd get one upstairs, away from the dining room. Food: EXCELLENT! We had two breakfasts and supper there, wonderful Southern scratch cooking, including the best biscuits I've had anywhere outside my Uncle Harold's house. Pecan trout was great. Also liked the 'library' room full of books to browse; checkers board & memorabiliia in the lobby, pictures and local artwork in the hallways, flexible check-in times, rollaway bed for the kids, and very friendly service at the front desk and dining room. The bed was very comfortable, but you may want a space heater in your room in the cooler months. All in all, it's for those who like the nostalgia of a place with some modernization and some original drawbacks, in a beautiful setting, something a little different. My kids loved it too.

Unique Inn
My husband and I stayed at the Balsam Mountain Inn Nov. 13-15, 2009. This is a very interesting inn. It is three stories and about 50 rooms. We were on the third floor in room 316, a regular room with a king size bed. It was very warm and comfortable on a cold weekend. The library in the common area was warm and inviting with plenty of books and hot complimentary beverages. A good full breakfast is served in the inn's restaurant. All employees we met were friendly and helpful. I would recommend the Balsam Mountain Inn to other travelers, friends and family.

wonderful experience
Combine the beautiful location and an historic, quaint hotel and you've got the Balsam Inn in North Carolina. The staff was delightful. The food was fabulous. It just doesn't get much better than this! and a clawfoot bathtub to boot!! Loved it!

Romantic
The Inn was very cozy and romantic. Each room was decorated in a unique way. My room even had a very romantic claw foot tub! The breakfast porch was especially lovely in the morning with songbirds singing and the smell of the mountains wafting through the screens.
