Description

Circa 1882. Colonel Hamilton Yancey, a prominent cotton farmer, built this grand Victorian mansion. The beautifully restored home boasts many original features, including 11 fireplaces, 14-foot ceilings, intricate crown molding and fine woodwork throughout. Six varieties of woods were used in the home's creation, including walnut and chestnut parquet floors and built-in bookcases and china cabinets that extend from floor to ceiling. One particularly notable item is a massive antique safe built into the home's stairwell. Each of the guest rooms includes a fireplace, and most include a clawfoot tub. Guests can relax on one of the porches and enjoy the scent of magnolias and the melodic ring of a distant train. Gourmet breakfasts are served by candlelight and include fresh fruit, homemade breads and a daily entrée. The home, located in a Rome historic district, is about an hour from both Atlanta and Chattanooga.

memories

The smell of magnolias, the gentle rustle of wind in the leaves, the feel of solid oak, pine and chestnut boards underfoot and the taste of wonderful Southern cooking, these are some of the memories which we shall take with us back home.
