Description
Circa 1882. Colonel Hamilton Yancey, a prominent cotton farmer, built this grand Victorian mansion. The beautifully restored home boasts many original features, including 11 fireplaces, 14-foot ceilings, intricate crown molding and fine woodwork throughout. Six varieties of woods were used in the home's creation, including walnut and chestnut parquet floors and built-in bookcases and china cabinets that extend from floor to ceiling. One particularly notable item is a massive antique safe built into the home's stairwell. Each of the guest rooms includes a fireplace, and most include a clawfoot tub. Guests can relax on one of the porches and enjoy the scent of magnolias and the melodic ring of a distant train. Gourmet breakfasts are served by candlelight and include fresh fruit, homemade breads and a daily entrée. The home, located in a Rome historic district, is about an hour from both Atlanta and Chattanooga.
