Awesome Stay!

My wife wanted to stay at a Bed & Breakfast for our 10th anniversary. Having done some research on Caboose's for my train collection, I found the FeatherBed Rail Road On-Line. I told her as long as trains were involved she could make a reservation any where she wanted! She made that reservation at the FeatherBed Rail Road Bed and Breakfast and we were not dissapointed! Tony and Peggy are awesome hosts and helped me with a couple of surprises for my wife. Our breakfasts were wonderful and I highly reccommend a stay with them as soon as possible. We look forward to planning another stay for ourselves! BPT Orangevale, CA

Great Experience

We love this very clean unique place. It is all Green, wonderful natural products in the units and that they use for cleaning, The only place we ever stay where we do not sneeze and wheeze! Charming and sharp young couple- great breakfasts.

A Perfect Romantic B&B

This was the greatest B&B we ever stayed in. The concept was so very unique (cabooses) and romantic. It was the perfect spot to relax and unwind. Tony and Peggy were the perfect hosts. They helped us plan our daily events and prepared wonderful breakfasts that were totally appropriate for a B&B...farm fresh eggs and freshly grown vegetables. We were there to celebrate my husbands 50th birthday and they made him feel very special by bringing a cupcake with a candle and singing happy birthday. What a wonderful memory for both of us. What a nice change from the everyday busyness and stress. We woke up and sat on our patio looking at the lake which was calm and soothing. And in the evening, we enjoyed the jacuzzi tub right in our room. What more can a person ask for? Nothing...except when can we go back? Soon, very soon!

This place is amazing. My partner and I have stay here on a couple of occasions and each time is more beutiful then the last. Tony & Peggy are wonderful InnKeepers and their breakfasts are absolutely wonderful. The view from our caboose was breathtaking. I would highly recommend staying here anytime of the year.

Not Upto B&B Standards...

This is a hard review to give because the inn keepers are (tony & peggy) are TRYING... but there is a lack in the 4 star experience of a B&B... the spoil factor and all the pleasantries of a B&B are missing: After staying a few days here is our review: The breakfast alone leaves you wondering... what the heck is going on in the kitchen. The breakfast is a basic unappealing meal at best. There is no culinary experience going into the recipes. Breakfast is not a good experience. No spoil factor here! The grounds need cleaning up around the main house in a bad way. The caboose's receive a light cleaning after each guest...UNACCEPTABLE!! There is a responsibility to HIRE a PROFESSIONAL to sanitize the tubs, the beds and such after EACH guest. The spoil factor totally lost: The sheets are CHEAP... you can see through them!! The toilet paper is like one-ply. The bed hurt us! The caboose themes have been there for so many years they are tired and some are downright creepy... they need a serious make over & cleaning. The Good: The grounds around the trains are well kept. The trains themselves are cute as heck.. they just need some major cleaning and TLC. I love that it's on Clear Lake... the view is breathtaking and the drive around the lake and the mountain is priceless. It is my belief that if the inn keepers plan on receiving repeat business and word or mouth customers, which they need in order to stay in biz, they should stay at a few of the finer B&B's and glean from them. This B&B has MORE than potential!! It should be a fine experience all the way around, not just in the caboose, but in the main house as well. The hope is that the inn keepers will gather the information necessary to run this place the way it is intended.

Management Response
We are sorry that you were disappointed with your breakfast. We strive to provide great breakfasts, with locally-grown ingredients, for our guests. We have no record of anyone with your name in our system, so we don't know when you stayed with us. We suspect it was during the kitchen remodel when, truly, breakfast was not the experience we are now able to provide with our brand new kitchen facility. It is absolutely horrifying to us to think of allowing a guest to stay in a suite that had received "a light cleaning" - each suite is thoroughly cleaned and sanitized after each guest departs, before a new guest is allowed to check in. We are glad to take this opportunity to announce that we have been updating the caboose suites. While each individual theme is remaining intact, the walls are being freshly painted, and many bed and window covers are being replaced. Many of the featherbeds were replaced in the fall. Likewise, the older (not cheap) sheets are being replaced as quickly as possible. Rather than creepy, most guests find the themes charming and return to the Featherbed Railroad numerous times to be able to stay in each caboose. Tony and Peggy have stayed in many B&Bs and spent many years planning and listing things they loved and didn't love about those experiences. Although not every plan has seen fruition, the reviewer was correct that we are trying to make a stay at the Featherbed Railroad a wonderful experience. If the reviewer is an expert in running a B&B, we would love to hear more pointers.

All Aboard!!!

My husband & I are both from R. R. families, with our Dad's both having worked in various capacities (his Dad as a Station Master in PA, and my Dad a Brakeman & Conductor for the S. P. (Southern Pacific) out of Roseville, CA for 40 years). According to my Dad, the S. P. retired their cabooses in the late 1980's, and some were sold with the wheels and some without. He says they'd have shipped them to Nice without the wheels, laid the track each one sits on, and then re-united the caboose with its wheels in place. It seems to me the original owner spent a lot of time planning and executing this themed property. We recognized the R. R. radio station playing in our room as soon as we walked in!! Thanks to innkeeper Tony, it is available 24 hours a day with only his advertising!!! There are several styles of cabooses and different themes for all nine. Some of the interior features are original to the working cabooses. I chose one with the hot tub and thoroughly enjoyed using it!!! We thought the bed looked a little iffy -- until we sat/laid down on the DOWN/featherbed mattress and pillows!!! They were WONDERFUL!!! The grounds are delightful!! They have a private pier that is very nice!! Innkeepers Peggy and Tony are the BEST!! Great people and great food!!! We'll DEFINATELY be back!!! I need to bring my Dad and Mom!!!

Awesome

Like visiting your favorite family members but you are the very special guest. My gluten free diet was deliciously accommodated. Everything was beautiful and clean! Perfect location to see all of Lake County.

“Fun, romantic & casual birthday es

My lovely bride wanted to do something different, and this place fit the bill perfectly. Advance reservations were a snap, and were handled the old-fashioned way: with a live, person-to-person telephone call. Nice touch. After a scenic 2+ hour drive, we felt as though we'd stumbled across a hidden sanctuary, our own rustic escape. There were no Wal-Mart's, McDonald's, or neon signs of any kind. Instead, we found a charming collection of quaint railroad cabooses, each lovingly converted into themed rooms. Featherbed Railroad is 'Glamping': glamorous camping. Our caboose featured a relaxing Jacuzzi, a large bed, and just enough appointments to be comfortable. Our front door opened onto a park-like lawn area, surrounded by beautiful trees framing a fantastic lake view. The Ritz it was not - and that's the point! We found a place to escape. Here, we were able to completely relax and shed the burdens of our daily grind. Our hosts were thoughtful, considerate, friendly, helpful, and rather interesting. The breakfasts reflect their individual style, and their concern for guest enjoyment. And suggestions for local businesses, meals, nature walks, scenic drives, and more were all spot-on. We enjoyed exploring the area - bird watching, local wineries, and a couple of local restaurants. And we appreciated at least as much the opportunity to simply unplug and lounge poolside, followed by a stroll by the lake. Thank you for an enjoyable trip!

What a great find!

My partner and I discovered the Featherbed through a Groupon-type deal, and we were absolutely thrilled! We can't wait to go back. The grounds are a perfect balance of kitsch and aesthetics. The cabooses really are just so neat, and it's right across the street from the lake. We were able to walk thirty seconds from our caboose to the dock and then swim, kayak (they rent them on site) and just soak up the sun. Tony and Peggy were super helpful, in everything from avoiding bell peppers at breakfast to calling the owner of the nearby Lunch Box Museum to make sure she'd open that day so we could check it out. We felt so welcomed and taken care of! Comfy beds, dozens of train videos, a relaxing setting - we can't wait to come back!
