Nicholas & Nancy Haan
Description
Circa 1830. The clip-clopping of horses is still heard from the front porches of this inn as carriages and wagons transport visitors around the island. In the Michigan Register of Historic Places, Haan's 1830 Inn is the oldest Greek Revival-style home in the Northwest Territory. It is behind a picket fence and just across the street from Haldimand Bay. Victorian and early American antiques include a writing desk used by Colonel Preston, an officer at Fort Mackinac at the turn of the century and a 12-foot breakfast table formerly used by Amish farmers when they harvested each other's crops. The inn is open from May to October.
