Describe Garden and Grounds |
Spacious lawns surround the house, perennials bloom throughout the seasons, and peach trees shade the guest entrance. In June strawberries are ready for picking and in August and September red raspberries are abundant. Throughout the summer there is hay making in the fields surrounding the property. Fall is a wonderful time for hiking the cliff and old stagecoach trail behind the farm. Fields and woods team with a variety of wildlife - turkey, deer, foxes, great blue herons and many other different kinds of birds. |

Historic Interest | Francis Saltz, a pioneer in the Mohawk Valley was the first to own the land on which this historic home was built. His gravesite has not survived, although it is said by genealogists to be in back of the house between the barn and the pond. The Federal brick house, once a tavern, was built by John Voorhees during the years 1790-1819. A stagecoach trail (dugway) is still accessible on the blue bank cliff behind the house. Reportedly, the home was a stop on the underground railroad.
