Description

Circa 1871. First settled as a land grant of thousands of acres, Howard Creek Ranch in Westport, California is now a 60-acre farm with sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean, sandy beaches and rolling mountains. A 75-foot bridge spans a creek that flows past barns and outbuildings to the beach 200 yards away. The farmhouse is surrounded by green lawns, an award-winning flower garden, and grazing cows, horses and llama. This rustic rural location offers antiques, a hot tub, sauna and heated pool. A traditional ranch breakfast is served each morning.

Historic Interest

Howard Creek and Ranch are named after Alfred Howard who came to California when he was 12 years old. He and his family bought the original land in the late 1860s and later acquired many hundreds of acres through land grants after the Civil War. The farmhouse, finished in 1871, is probably the earliest structure still standing.

Rip-Off

This place is a rip off! Watch the extra charges. It must be for the cobwebs, broken faucets, hot tub that had leaves, and the junk on the property. Watch out for stepping in sheep dung. Watch your money!

Stayed in 2011

The ranch was not what I expected. At first I felt disappointed with the buildings. I have to say the staff were fantastic, the breakfast amazing. I loved the sun room and the beach. It is the most unusual and fantastic place I have stayed.
