Description

Circa 1779. Built by Ethan Allen's brother, this Colonial Revival inn is a state historic site. Hand-blown glass panes, hand-hewn beams, handmade bricks and wide-board floors provide evidence of the inn's longevity. Surrounded by farms and forest, the inn's setting is perfect for those searching for some peace and quiet. Plenty of recreational activities also are found nearby, including fine trout fishing, swimming and canoeing in the Battenkill River on the property.

What's Green About Your Inn

The Inn is heated with wood pellets - a natural and renewable resource. The pellet furnace provides most of the heat and hot water. Two pellet stoves provide localized heat in the tavern and dining room. Our water is natural well water - naturally clean and delicious!! Our dishwasher and washer are low-water usage and very energy efficient.

Relaxing Spot

Thank you so much for having us at the Ira Allen House! The place is wonderful and the breakfast and cookies were delicious. This has been a perfect spot to relax after a tough bike race at Tour of the Battenkill. We feel as though we've shared a little bit of history and you have done great things to make this old house come alive.

Family of Five

Our family of five started with one night and grew to three wonderful days of comfort, charm and memorable service. We will return and certainly not for only one day. More than one day is a must.

First B&B Stay

This was our first stay at a B&B and now we are spoiled! Our room was cozy and spotless, our meals were delicious beyond description, and our hosts could not have been more gracious. After spending a week here it is really going to be hard to leave! We wanted to get away to relax in Vermont...we couldn't have chosen a better place to stay. Thank you for your hospitality.

Fun on the Battenkill

We have been going to the Ira Allen House for almost 10 years now, we generally go 3 seasons, Summer, Fall Foliage, and the week after Christmas for New Years Eve and skiing at nearby Bromley or Stratton Mountains. There are endless activities within short distance and inn keepers Ed and Maria Jones make the BEST BREAKFAST and are so hospitable that we come back year after year

A+ in our gradebooks!

Chef Maria started our days with memorably delicious recipes. Their very own chickens provided us with the freshest eggs. The whole family was very friendly and helpful, orienting us to the area and making us feel at home. John and Katherine

beyond our expectations

Maria and Ed couldn't host a more welcoming and comfortable Inn if they tried! From the moment we arrived, we were pleased beyond our expectations. The historic Inn is in a quiet, scenic setting and the house simply boasts "Vermont!" It's everything you would expect for a quiet getaway. Towns, shopping, activities are all nearby-- and Maria will show you the places that the locals frequent-- she made our trip! You'll feel like you are family at the first breakfast-- and breakfast alone is worth the trip!! We will be back!

Warm & Friendly

Warm, friendly & comfortable! Maria & Ed, the owners really make this place special! They are knowledgable, friendly & unobtrusive all at the same time. Maria makes an unbelievable breakfast! And her & Ed's knowledge of the area & ability to give suggestions on what to do & where to eat is outstanding. By the time you leave, you will feel like family. We will definitely stay there again!

A Wonderful Place To Stay

My husband and I haven't gone on a couple's vacation since our son was born 2 1/2 years ago so we really wanted to find a wonderful B&B for our mini-vacation. I'm so happy that we booked with the Ira Allen House. The reviews were what steered us to this little haven. The house is beautiful, our room was cozy (the Abigail Suite) and Maria makes the best cookies, breakfast (which was hearty and plentiful!) and for all you coffee lovers the coffee was delicious. Maria and Ed are truly warm people. They made my husband and I think about moving to Vermont! Their daughter Rachel is the sweetest and their dog Princess lives up to her name : ) Their grounds are absolutely gorgeous. You can relax in their parlor and read or play games and their water pressure for taking a shower is awesome. (I know it's a quirk of mine, but I'm one of those people that gets really annoyed with weak water pressure and tepid temperatures.) The Ira Allen House is 15 minutes away from Manchester which is a cool town/shopping district within the area (great bookstore the Northshire Bookshire) and 5 minutes away from Jonathan's Table which is one of the best restaurants I've ever been to (Maria graciously made a reservation for us). We will definitely be back someday with our toddler son. Thanks Maria and Ed for making our first couple's mini-vacation a truly wonderful memory.

A cozy Gem

This is a place not to be missed. One gets a feeling of stepping back in time to when things were peaceful and friendly. Thefurniture is comfortable and old fashioned - lovely simple decorations. It is over 200 years old, and the floors are beautiful wide boards that are not always level. Romance, oh yes - you can be talking to the friendy Inn Keepers, or up in your own living room by a fire. The food is wonderful. How can you ask for more. I have been there twice and plan to return.

Warm, friendly Inn

We just spent 4days/3nights at this lovely and charming historic Inn! The Innkeepers are the best- meeting all of our needs in a warm, friendly manner! The breakfasts were delicious by Chef Kevin! We enjoyed the relaxing evenings by the fire listening to piano music!! Our room was clean, comfortable and nicely decorated. We will definitely stay here again!!
