Description

The Kate Stanton Inn is a family homestead, whose guests feel the warmth of welcome the moment they enter. Enjoy its perfect setting to gaze out at the Pacific and across the spectacular Batiquitos Lagoon and enjoy cool ocean breezes and an occasional Blue Heron. Tastefully renovated in 1990, the home is Spanish Colonial in style, with elegant arches, a curved staircase and a graceful open floor plan. Guests relax in the common areas of the house and gardens, and in fall and winter there's a blazing fire burning each evening in the Great Room. Enjoy a glass of wine and conversation with the Innkeepers. During the summer months, wine & cheese gatherings are held on the patio, overlooking the ocean.
The guest rooms, reminiscent of the Cape Cod islands, are distinctly appointed with a New England feel and sparkle with cleanliness. Plush robes, beach towels and an amenities basket await visitors.
A bountiful breakfast is served each morning, with special attention to each guest's dietary preferences. Starbucks coffee, tea and fresh juices are available for self-serve, along with the morning paper.
Patrons of The Kate Stanton Inn unfailingly comment in their journal entries that they have found a home away from home, and leave refreshed and renewed.

We got lucky!

We had initially booked a place on Airbnb and our host canceled on us last minute. They did us a favor as we found the Kate Stanton Inn and immediately booked a 4 night stay. The home and location were outstanding (blocks from a beautiful south Carlsbad state beach) and minutes from a ton of must go to restaurants in Encinitas (Fish 101 (referred to us by Liz and Caroi), The Taco Stand...etc). The service was outstanding as Liz and Carol go above and beyond to make sure you enjoy your stay. From customized breakfasts (Carol makes something world famous) and beverages, to wine and snacks in the afternoon where you can sit on their back patio and enjoy the ocean view. Part of me does not want anymore people to know about this place because it will continue to get tougher to book, but it truly is a relaxing and perfect experience.

A Great Stay in Encinitas

Liz and Carol did a great job of tending to all of our needs during our stay at the Inn. We had 4 delicious breakfasts at the Inn, plus coffee or wine in the late afternoon after we had returned from our daytime adventures. For our nights out, the Inn is 5 minutes away from Mr. Peabody's, which has different types of live music every night, and 3 minutes away from Fish 101, which serves the best fish in Encinitas. The Kate Stanton Inn is named after and dedicated to the grandmother of Liz. We enjoyed our stay very much, and plan to return next summer…

Best B&B experience ever!

From the moment we stepped foot in the Kate Stanton Inn, Liz and Carol made us feel at home. Their meticulous attention to the details of truly providing their guests with gracious hospitality pours out in abundance. You can't go wrong with a stay at the Kate Stanton Inn!

Great stay

This place definitely exceeded expectations. It's in a quiet neighborhood near both the freeway and the beach, so very convenient. Liz and Carol do a fantastic job as innkeepers; their hospitality is warm but not intrusive. They do a great job of making you feel at home. As an example, after a long, cross-country flight, I arrived at the inn around 10:00 PM and a hot dinner was awaiting me. The Nantucket room is comfortable, large and well maintained. The breakfasts were wonderful, with fresh fruit, juice and eggs. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants a luxurious small inn with a great innkeeper's touch.…

A most wonderful stay

Usually I hate doing reviews, but in this case I am more than happy to offer my opinions. My experience at the Kate Stanton Inn made my overall trip an enjoyable one. I was at a conference with many other people. My time at the Inn with two wonderful people (and the other guests) made my trip more personal and genuine. I felt at home with the staff (and this is not a word I would really care to use for them, but I know it is a technicality). I felt like they invited me into their lives and I was really in their home. I would recommend this lodging to anyone. They showed both flexibility and structure when necessary. I never felt pressured to do anything, but be myself and the ladies were super accommodating. I definitely plan on returning (with my wife and kids). I hadn't given a return trip to San Diego much thought before going there, but now it is in my mind for the future. I wish there were more places and people like this. My faith in the goodness of people was greatly restored.

Great B&B experience

A charming location (Leucadia). Our spotless and beautifully appointed room, the Nantucket Suite, had a fabulous bed and wonderful linens. Very pleasant, friendly and helpful hosts were available and knowledgeable. The lovely breakfasts and especially the home made bran muffins were so appreciated! Highly recommend Kate Stanton Inn anyone wanting a for superior B&B experience.

Like my 9 and 12 year olds would say:

No words can express the wonderful time my family and I had at the Kate Stanton Inn! The home is impeccable, and the service is out of this world. Incredibly comfortable rooms and beds. The decor in the rooms is both comforting and relaxing. The pictures don't do it justice. The food was home cooked and made with so much love and care. It was delicious!!! Liz and Carol are warm and welcoming. You leave knowing you have new friends forever, and for us, we have new members for our family. They are the perfect guide for your relaxed or active vacation. We have visited San Diego many times before, and this was our first time at a B&B. I don't think we will ever stay anywhere else while in San Diego. This was the first time we all felt rested while on vacation... No need for a vacation after your vacation after you stay at Kate Stanton Inn. We can't wait to go back!!…

An Anniversary to Remember!

My husband and I had a wonderfully peaceful and memorable stay at this beautiful B&B. We felt like we made two new friends. Liz and Carol are so welcoming and generous and wanted to make sure we had a great time. We will most definitely return again. We stayed in the Chatham Suite and the room, along with the view, was absolutely beautiful. We will happily be recommending it to our friends and family!

Our Home Away From Home

If you are looking for a beautiful place to relax, be at peace, wake up to delicious breakfasts, and feel pampered, then stay at the Kate Stanton Inn! The hosts, Liz and Carol, are incredibly warm and gracious. Whether you want to socialize or be on your own, they will accommodate you. We chose to socialize and are so glad we got to know these lovely women. We felt very special and look forward to maintaining our friendship with a future stay! Thank you both!!

Outstanding all around

I just spend 5 wonderful days at the Kate Stanton Inn. Liz and Carol's home is beautiful, extremely clean, tidy, charming and very lovely. I woke up to a wonderful breakfast, great coffee and watching Hummingbirds from my bedroom terrace. I will never stay in a Hotel again when I come to visit San Diego. Just beautiful, loved it!!

Paradise

We very much enjoyed our two night stay at the Kate Stanton Inn. The Inn is a lovely home situated in paradise, otherwise known as Encinitas. The beach is an easy 1/4 mile walk from the Inn, and the location provides easy access to all of the North County beach towns. The proprietor, Liz and the innkeeper, Carol are two of the most gracious and interesting women you are ever likely to meet. They provided good wine and even better conversation in the early evening. Carol's breakfasts were scrumptious and satisfying. Our room was beautifully appointed and comfortable. We hope to find time for another stay at the Kate Stanton Inn soon!…

A Great Escape

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed a too-brief, two day stay at the Kate Stanton Inn. Innkeepers Liz and Carol were wonderful and welcoming. The property was great...so comfortable and tastefully appointed. The bed sheets were maybe the best I've ever experienced in any hotel or inn. Sunday breakfast featuring smoked salmon (among anything else desired) was especially scrumptious! We also enjoyed the interesting history of Kate Stanton. We recommend!

Encinitas getaway

My wife and I spent 2 wonderful days at the inn. Liz and Carol are perfect hosts and were gracious enough to allow us to stay in their beautiful home. Everything was perfect from the food to the furnishings. We will definitely return when we need another break from the Az.heat. Highly recommended! Thank you Liz and Carol!

Charming Romantic Getaway

Beautiful property and charming room fully remodeled to Nantucket style theme. Private bath and patio on ground floor made this a wonderful weekend for my wife and I. We were there for a Sunday wedding and Liz allowed us a late check to accommodate the afternoon start time. She also had coffee set up for us each morning by 5:30 am as we are both early risers. Delicious food and great conversations with Inn keepers and other guests made for a perfect weekend.

Like visiting your favorite aunt! X’s 2

My first stay in a B and B was fantastic. The ladies have a beautiful place and everything was perfect. I felt welcome as soon as I rang the doorbell and it just got better and better. Neat, clean, everything was right and tight, then I went home to three kids. I will definitely be staying here again.

What an absolute gem!

What an absolute treat it was to stay here!!! My husband and I celebrated our two year anniversary with a getaway weekend to California (were from Arizona) Liz and carol are SUCH incredible hostesses who have obviously mastered the art of hospitality. It was absolutely delightful and not awkward in the least bit (as some b and bs can be) I feel like we became part of a family as the other guests were so kind and fun to talk to as well! If you find yourself in Encinitas, do not pass this place up!

The Best. Period.

Liz and Carol are the best innkeepers, owners, hosts, we have ever met. They truly welcome guests and treat them as family. With love and grace, they have created a piece of paradise along the beautiful Pacific Coast. Accommodations are beautiful, comfortable and spotless. The food is amazing! Breakfast, snacks, wine, freshly squeezed juice, amazing coffee, mouth-watering buttery croissants, french crepes, and beautiful fruit and berries. They do the B and B part with 5 stars! But the hospitality, and kindness, and love for their neighbor and their world, is something that doesn't come up in a review format. This separates them from all the other places we have stayed. Every guest felt special! It's no wonder they have repeat guests, a waiting list and friends across the globe.

Great Stay

The Bed & Breakfast is a lovely sample of a California dwelling on a quiet hill with great air and great views. Cool and calm - very tastefully decorated. Innkeepers that make you feel as if you have known them for a long time. Plants that greet you with their old charm. Linens that hug you with love and kindness. Breakfasts touched with a few rays of the morning sun. We would stay there again and again. We liked it very much.

Unforgettable Stay at the Kate Stanton Inn

My husband and I spent two nights in the Chatham Suite at the Kate Stanton Inn for our Wedding in San Diego. We could not have enjoyed the experience more. The Innkeepers Liz and Carol were a joy to be around. Liz kept in contact before our trip. She obtained several details from us, including what we liked to eat, and arranged a lunch for us while we got ready on our wedding day. Liz and Carol prepared breakfast for us both days and the spread was delicious! We spent the evening of our wedding sharing some cake with them. The suite was beautiful as was the rest of the home. We have never experienced a stay like this one and we cannot wait to come back. Highly recommend Kate Stanton Inn!…

A Very Special Place!

The Kate Stanton Inn is a very beautiful and special bed and breakfast, and I would recommend it to anyone visiting the San Diego area. Liz and Carol put so much attention to detail so that you feel as if you're in Martha Stewart's home (Liz and Carol are the best hostesses ever!). They took note of my dietary preferences, coordinated meal times, served delicious local and organic food, and provided all of the necessary toiletries. I stayed at the Inn in October 2017 for my wedding, and recommend the Chatham suite as a bridal suite or honeymoon suite - It has a breathtaking view of Batiquitos Lagoon and the ocean, plenty of light, a large master bathroom with two separate commodes and a giant walk in closet.. Liz and Carol made my stay extra special by providing champagne and organizing a luncheon for me and my bridesmaids the day of the wedding. The Inn was the perfect place for pictures as well, and we ended up taking beautiful "getting ready" and "first look" photos. The Inn has other rooms as well, and I would recommend it to anyone traveling through San Diego, either for a short or extended stay. It is great for people traveling alone, couples, and families. I plan on returning to the Kate Stanton with my family for many years to come! Thank you Liz and Carol, for creating such a special place.…

Staying in the inn was a piece of heaven on earth - just what I needed. So many blessings and celebrating the birth of our precious new grandson. Will treasure in my heart the beauty of what you both bring to your guests and the world. When home, I take with me your kindness of serving with so many lovely things and ideas.

like home away from home

Everything about my experience w. Liz Clarke and the Kate Stanton Inn in Encinitas, outside San Diego was 1st class. From small details like fresh toothbrush and toothpaste in the bathroom to a glass of wine with the innkeeper before bed, staying at this beautiful home was memorable. I would give it my highest recommendation. Wonderful service.

Excellent long-term stay

Our experience with the Kate Stanton Inn was truly excellent from start to finish. We did a 7 night stay with our toddler for a special family event nearby, and were pleasantly surprised by the flexibility, thoughtfulness, sensitivity and warmth that both Liz and Carol extended to us throughout our visit. The breakfasts were scrumptious. The rooms and shared spaces were beautiful, comfortable and well stocked. I cannot recommend this Inn highly enough. Book without hesitation.

The Perfect Place!

I had never stayed at an Inn or Bed & Breakfast – what a pleasant surprise! Liz and Carol were so nice and very helpful. The Inn is located on a quiet hill with excellent access to the freeway (but without the noise). I stayed in the Nantucket Room – a beautiful room with private bath and patio. The room is very spacious and tastefully decorated including a fireplace, rocking chair, lounge chair, desk, large closet and very comfortable bed. Oh, and I can’t forget – fresh cut flowers from her yard…in January! Although I know they usually provide a large breakfast, I’m not a big breakfast eater and was on the go first thing in the morning. So it was so nice that they always had my tea ready and would send me off each morning with homemade muffins, coffee cake, fruit and yogurt to go – perfect for me! I would definitely recommend this Inn and plan to stay again if I return to this area. Seriously, make this your choice the next time you visit this area – you’ll love it!

Home away from home

Forget 5 star hotels and motels. You have to give this one a go. I stayed there for 7 days and it was faultless. Hosts were two mature ladies who were the perfect hosts. Tell your family and friends, you won't regret it. Watch out for the breakfast, never the same twice and Mitchilen award standard.

We enjoyed our stay very much, and plan to return next summer
