Loved this place from 1977 to 1995!
Well I loved this place!
The victorian charm, the warmth of the staff, the great breakfasts with the many hotel stories recited by my one and only DAD. Yes, my parents owned this magical place from 77 to 95. My father passed in 93 and due to the then current work ethic difference between my brother and myself, my mother decided to sell. I would have run the place forever as I had the 'hotel' thing passed down from my dad. He ran some of the great hotels including the Clift in San Francisco. He used to put on the clambake for Bing Crosby during the Pro-Am golf tourney in Pebble beach. He opened the Cabana Hyatt House in Palo Alto which was patterned after Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.
Anyway, back to the Magnolia. 13 rooms of victorian elegance decorated by my one and only mother who had an incredible propensity for interior design. All and I mean ALL of the rooms' antiques were real and quite old. She absolutely loved shopping!
They are gone, the hotel is totally different now with the new owners, but my fond memories will forever live on.
If anyone would like more information on the Magnolia hotel, feel free to email me. larslocken at gmail dot com.
Take care.
