Description
Circa 1800. Listed in the National Register, and featured in Mel Gibson's movie, The Patriot, Mansfield Plantation is a perfect respite for those in search of romance and history in a natural, secluded setting. The large dining room and sitting rooms are furnished with the owner's collections of 19th-century American antiques that include paintings, china, silver, furniture and gilt-framed mirrors. Accommodations include three guesthouses, each decorated in a romantic style and boasting fireplaces, hardwood floors, high ceilings, comfortable furnishings and collectibles. The vast grounds (900 private acres), shaded by moss-draped oaks, provide ideal spots for relaxing. Enjoy azalea and camellia gardens, as well as views of the surrounding marshlands. Guests can relax in hammocks or swings, watch for birds or enjoy a bike ride. Boating on the Black River is another possibility. Guests may bring their own boats or rent canoes or kayaks nearby. Among the plantation's notable historic features are a schoolhouse, kitchen, winnowing house, slave village and chapel, all of which predate the Civil War.

A wonderful stay at Mansfield !
We have been staying at B & Bs and old, historic inns and hotels for many years, but Mansfield Plantation surpasses any place we have ever stayed. Such a romantic place where the beauty, tranquility and history is incredible. The innkeeper's breakfasts were wonderful and she was so kind and helpful! We will be returning.

A journey back in time
We felt immersed in history and learned so much about rice plantation culture. Sun rises over the water and filtering through the live oaks was so peaceful. A journey back in time.

A gorgeous place
We originally planned to stay three nights. Ten minutes after our arrival, we decided to spend a fourth night and would have stayed longer if we could. A gorgeous place where the history is palpable. Kathryn makes it all come alive with stories to go with her wonderful breakfasts. Our thanks to Kathryn and to the Parkers for sharing this place with us.

another B & B for Chelsea
What a great place! It felt like going back in time to the 1700/1800's, but with modern amenities. A lovely bed and breakfast at the end of a long, winding lane.

Secluded Spot for Chelsea
What a lovely, secluded spot for a romantic getaway! My husband & I enjoyed the beautiful grounds, lovely room and delicious breakfasts. Kathryn is a welcoming innkeeper and entertained us with some interesting stories.

Wonderful stay with gracious hosts!
We stayed in the Lance room at the Mansfield Plantation for a weekend getaway after the holiday hustle and bustle. What a great place to relax. The owners and the innkeeper Kathryn exude the graciousness of Southern hospitality -- very pleasant and really make one feel welcome. We enjoyed long walks on the rice paddies and learned a bit of history in Georgetown at the Rice Museum. Kathryn's culinary skills are outstanding. Each morning, the breakfast is wonderful. My favorite is the Low country shrimp and grits. Since it was December and the air was cool -- we didn't have a problem with mosquitoes. This is definitely a place we would like to return to again.

romantic honeymoon
We have spent 3 days of our honeymoon on this plantation and LOVED it! you don't find this in Europe anymore,to be in the middle of nature like this in a historic setting! LOVED the breakfasts... Thank you Kathryn! Please visit Brookgreen gardens during your stay!

The Best of the Old South
We were only able to enjoy one evening at the Mansfield, but time seemed to slow down for us that two days that we were there. We left Mansfield inspired and refreshed. Everything was wonderful and magical. It is nice to know that history is being so thoughtfully preserved. I can't wait to go back!

Unique!!!!!!
This is a wonderful opportunity to go back in time and capture the history of former years. Historic Charleston is nearby and the charming city of Georgetown. The innkeeper is very knowledgeable about the area and very helpful. The breakfasts are out of this world delicious!!!!! The accomadations are comfortable and beautiful.

Magic. A repeater, to be sure
I trolled Trip Advisor and other sites to find something special for an overnight in Georgetown, SC. Did I ever find it.
The Mansfield Plantation is a wonderful site, steeped in history and restored with care and grace.
We didn't have time to explore the historic restoration work being done on the Slave Chapel, and other aspects of the Plantation so we're trying to figure out when we can.
A must for anyone who wants to be off the beaten path, experience a one of a kind, and/or history buffs. Truthfully though, I can't imagine anyone wldn't find it an extraordinary and special place.

Out of a Movie!
I fell in love with the Mansfield Plantation!! If you want the "Notebook" experience riding bikes through the beautiful over-sized oak trees covered in spanish moss experience then this is the place for you! It's nature at its best. This alone is what makes this place a beauty! I recommend the Lance Room. A very inviting, warm and cozy room! Kathryn took very good care of us by cooking the best breakfast! Breakfast is served at 9am every morning, however, even though we had to leave at 7am on our last day she accommodated us by having breakfast ready for us at 6:30am so we didn't miss out. That was very sweet of her. My favorite part of breakfast was not only the food but she even played Billie Holiday as background music. I JUST LOVED THAT! Also, even though there aren't any restaurants on the premises for lunch or dinner, you didn't need it!! It is part of the whole romantic experience! We went to a local store and bought stuff for picnics such as wine, meats and cheeses, crackers, and fruit. There is a refrigerator so we were able to store it. I will recommend this any place any time, however, ONLY TO THOSE WHO TRULY APPRECIATE THE LITTLE THINGS IN LIFE.

Absolutely Beautiful!!!
From the entrance with large oaks covered in Spanish moss to the actual inn itself the entire experience is breathtakingly beautiful. Quiet and peaceful and only a very short drive into Georgetown. Great breakfast too!

The best of Southern hospitality
We spent a wonderful four-day getaway at the plantation. This magical place is out of a movie. Everything you need for a unique Southern experience is right here--from the live oaks on this former rice plantation to the hospitality provided by innkeeper Ms. Kathryn Green. You cannot go wrong here if you are in search of a truly special experience.

Amazingly Romantic!!
Enjoyed a 2 night stay at this beautiful plantation. The innkeeper was most gracious and the accommodations were exquisite. I can truly say that this trip was one of my most memorable and enjoyable to date. A must see!!! Looking forward to visiting again soon.

This Place is the Best
We just left Mansfield Plantation and all ready we want to go back. Everything was awesome. The grounds, the room, the breakfasts are so high class. You could not ask for a better place to stay in this area. Kathryn, the innkeeper, gave us so much help in what to see and was friendly and kind. There is a view of what we thought was a lake and it was the former rice fields. There are bicycles to ride and we did it. Oh yes, and the breakfasts were deliciously gourmet. You will not be disappointed if you stay here.
