The name Nogal is derived from the Spanish word which means walnut tree which there are many in this town. Beautifully located at the foothills of the majestic Sacramento Mountains, Nogal was formerly tagged with names such as Galena and Dry Gulch. Interestingly, Nogal became famous in 1879 because of the discovery of gold. Aside from the Nogal bed and breakfast inns, you will enjoy your stay here because of its many attractions. Bonito Lake is an alpine reservoir in the Sierra Blanca Mountains and is surrounded by the Lincoln National Forest although it is not part of the national forest. The Smokey Bear Park provides a great playground, ideal for the kids and the park is located at the west side. Stay for a weekend and you will want to stay forever in Nogal.
