Circa 1892. Two historic Queen Anne mansions, a guest house and a private cottage comprise this elegant Victorian inn and gourmet restaurant just a few blocks from downtown. Under massive gables, a wraparound veranda is filled with white wicker furniture, geraniums and petunias. The inn boasts 22 working fireplaces amidst antique furnishings. Well-appointed guest bedrooms and luxury suites offer a variety of romantic amenities that may include whirlpools as well as views of Madeline Island and Lake Superior. The two-story Fountain Cottage is just uphill. For breakfast indulge in baked muffins served with Rittenhouse Jams, Jellies and a cup of coffee accompanied by dishes such as Wild Bayfield Blueberry Crisp or Moonglow Pears Poached in White Zinfandel.

This beautifully restored mansion was a pleasure to visit. The room was exquisite. With the double whirlpool and comfortable Tempur-Pedic bed, we almost never missed a TV. Although they do have WiFi and satellite radio. The breakfast included with our stay was quite satisfying, however a larger breakfast may be purchased if you are so inclined. The staff and owner were very knowledgeable of the area and its history. They also invited us to take a peek at the other unoccupied rooms. The only downfall to our stay was the expense. The rooms are quite a bit more than most B&Bs. As lovely as it is, this place will only be for special occasions.
