A Room with a Romantic View

High atop Overlook Farm, next to an ancient pecan tree, is the most magnificent view of the Mighty Mississippi. It is a sight shared only with eagles and natives of over a hundred years past. This timeless landmark is unmatched by any other inn. Tucked away along the Great River Road, halfway between St Louis and Hannibal, Mo. is Overlook Farm in its splendor. This romantic getaway is untouched and unspoiled by franchised eateries and replicated lodging. The quaint and undisturbed village of Clarksville accompanies Overlook. This village possesses artisan shops with Americana ambiance. The grounds of Overlook are a delightful blend of rolling hills, natural viewpoints, stately inns, manicured gardens, and seasonal farm fresh dining. The culinary gardens are only steps away from the kitchen ensuring freshness and variety. Outside dining is nature entwined with bubbling fountains, beautiful floral, and overhead vines to provide shade. In the evening, a relaxed stone fired pizza cooked at the courtyard while dining under the stars is memorable. Later, sipping red wine while lounging in seating encircling the fire pit welcomes unforgettable moments. Rackheath is a combination of timeless charm and modern comforts. The front parlor has a romantic allure with its inviting architecture and décor. The rooms are very accommodating. The spacious hallways with large windows provide for exploring. The solarium with Jacuzzi is a great place to unwind and toast each other with a glass of champagne. The gracious hospitality is evident among the service and food preparation. Every one of the staff, from the housekeeping, servers, bussers, and even the grounds keepers are very friendly and enjoyable. They all go out of their way to please and ensure the feeling of being their guests. Even the attention to detail from the culinary staff is very noticeable. The fresh preserves and honey are produced from the harvest at Overlook. Tomatoes picked at their peak and fresh basil make a flavorful tapenade. There is an incredible apple tart prepared from apples picked just up the road. These details will enable Overlook to provide outstanding experiences time and again. There are many great inns on the east coast and in California. The Heartland is proud to have claim to Overlook Farm. My wife and I would love to be guests repeatedly.

Overflowing With Romance

My fiance and I spent New Year's Eve 2011 at the Rackheath House at Overlook Farms. From our very first greeting at the Clarksville Station, we were sold on this beautiful, relaxed and friendly place and knew we had made the perfect choice to start our new year together. The House was exquisite and the rooms impeccable. The staff pays attention to every detail and creates the most romantic atmosphere. From the linens, to the wine glasses in the room, to the homemade brandy awaiting you, to the enormous, luxurious bathrooms with heated towels, jacuzzi tub and two person showers.....we were in heaven. We loved it so much, we are coming back in February to celebrate Valentine's Day. We could not think of a better place to spend a romantic weekend, with fabulous food, and fabulous people (the staff). Romance abounds not only in the rooms, but in the house and the grounds as well.We cannot wait to come back in the spring to see the gardens in full bloom, to sit in the swing overlooking the pond, to ride the bikes into town and along the river and to end our day with the most amazing food we will experience in the St Louis area. The food is artfully done and perfectly prepared.....a true culinary delight! Romance abounds at Overlook Farms!

InnSide Tip - Go to Clarksville Early
Prior to check in, explore the shops in town. There is a glass works shop that allows you to design your own glassware and plenty of antique shops to explore.

Perfectly Romantic

My wife and I decided to spend our 25th Wedding Anniversary at the Inn. We did not know what to expect, but when we arrived and drove up the long drive to the Inn, the property was well kept and inviting.(can not wait to see the many gardens in the spring.) The house was all lit up as we arrived in the evening, and looked very warm and inviting. As we walked thru the front door we looked at each other in awe at the exquisite beauty. We knew this was going to be a weekend to remember. The bedroom was perfect and very private. the jacuzzi tub with double shower head added a nice touch. Being in this Inn felt like we were in a different world all to ourself. Simply amazing. The staff was friendly and professional. The Station Restaurant was so warm and relaxing. I have to say my wife and I agree that we have never had meals that were so perfectly prepared and so wonderfully delicious. There is no better way to cap your meal, then a sit by the bonfire with the drink of your choice on the expansive patio. We will definitley return again and again. What a weekend.

Our Dream Wedding from Sarah

We found Overlook Farms about 6 months before our wedding date. My fiance and I started dated 10 years prior to our wedding date. We met in St. Louis and currently live in Minneapolis. We were planning from afar and not having the best of luck with our venues. We had looked everywhere for the perfect outdoor location. A "rustic" spot, with the right amount of class. Upon our first visit to Overlook Farms, we were created with great excitement. We were showed around the grounds, then brought out to the Overlook. It was a beautiful view and there waiting for us was a bottle of champagne. We had not been treated so special at any other location we had visited. It brought tears to my eyes. We visited and had phone conversations for the next 6 months, then the special day came. Overlook Farm went above and beyond my expectations. Not only did they provide amazing food and service, but they added numerous special touches (banner with our initials, special chalkboard messages and even painted our initials on a propane tank). We had definitly made the right decision. During our reception(after our fireworks went off :) my new husband and I walked up to the overlook and looked down on on the beautiful setting. Not only were we surrounded by our friends and family from all across the country, but the atmosphere and ambiance could not be better. It was a day/night I will never forget, and neither will several of our guests. Thank you Overlook Farm for making our wedding day dreams come true! Oh, and the food! OVER THE TOP! My husbands grandparents still venture the 45 minutes for the burgers. We can't wait for our next trip down from Minneapolis! Thanks again Overlook Farm. We couldn't has asked for a better wedding weekend!

The Perfect Romantic Wedding

My sister and my brother in law we're married on this picture perfect property. The Rackheath House is where we stayed and was gorgeous. All details were perfect. It has a beautiful porch that overlooks the gardens and also has a view of the lake. Overlook farms was extremely accommodating and made their day perfect!

Romantic Getaway

Accomodations were beautiful, well appointed and luxurious. Along with the beautiful Inn and all it's offerings, the Overlook Station Restaurant was phenomenal! The atmosphere was suprisingly upscale for a small town with not alot going on. The food was to die for. The menu was full of unique offerings, plentiful portions, fresh from the farm ingredients prepared by a gourmet chef, wonderfully accomodating servers and staff. They even offered to deliver our meal to our Inn which was up the road about a mile ... Only suggestion for the Inn was to have one sitting area in the house that was more casual and "lounge like" since overall, it offers a pretty formal atmosphere.

Right Out of a Romantic Movie!!

Have you ever seen the movie The Importance of Being Ernest? It stars Reese Witherspoon and some other people, but they aren't really important. The important part is that the movie could have been filmed at Rackheath House without any change in essence. There could be poetry reading on the water's edge, lovers chasing each other through the verdant garden, or a fashionable cocktail party held while a suitor plays the piano to impress the young lady with the flashing, blue eyes. In short, Rackheath House has everything that one could hope for when making a checklist of what makes a perfectly romantic escape.

A perfect, romantic oasis!

I was fortunate to discover Overlook Farm thanks to a friend of mine, who told me I shouldn't miss it. I procrastinated a while, figuring my friend was probably making mountains out of molehills, but when my anniversary with my special lady came around, I figured it was a perfect time to check it out. When the special day came, we took a long and relaxing drive up highway 79 and enjoyed the sights. Eventually we pulled into Clarksville and I spotted Overlook Farm's restaurant, the Station. I was amazed. I said this to the owner when I met her, and I'll say it now, but I felt like I was looking at a place that belonged in Southern California. It was a real oasis and I felt relaxed as soon as I walked in. It was practically dinner time once we had finished looking around, so the two of us sat down in the beautiful dining room to partake. We both ordered a glass of red, organic wine (we felt snobby and eco-friendly at the same time!) while we waited. My steak arrived and was perfect. PERFECT. The seasoning on it was out of this world and it went really well with the organic wine. Not only that, but the chef himself came out to greet us and make sure everyone was tasting right. It really made us feel special and helped make the entire meal perfect. Our server was a delight, keeping us laughing all of dinner, but not coming over too much. After dinner was done, we were surprised with two glasses of champaign and a plate of chocolate covered strawberries, on the house. Man, I'd never had champaign and chocolate covered strawberries together before, but if they always taste as good as they did there, sign me up! Once all of dinner was done, we were shown up to our room at Rackheath House. The long driveway to the inn is surrounded by an expansive garden, a pond, and I saw a huge outdoor chessboard, but, alas, knew that my lady would not take me up on the offer of a romantic chess game! :-) The outside of the house looked simple, but the inside it a different story. We walked in and our jaws dropped: we felt like we were in a Southern mansion. It was amazing. We spent a while looking around the inn before checking out our room. The second floor, where our room was, has an incredible view of the Mississippi Valley. Before heading into our room, we took a stroll outside. It was amazing. The fireflies were out, lighting our way, and the stars were beautiful. We found our way to a hammock nearby and just watched the stars together, hand in hand. The crickets and sounds of nature surrounded us, making us feel all alone with nature and each other. I may be being a bit Romantic here, but it was truly amazing. We escaped from the everyday and found ourselves in a place where all we wanted to do was be with each other. Eventually, like giddy kids on Christmas, we opened the door to our room. Inside we were surprised with flowers in the room, rose petals on the bed, brandy waiting on the coffee table, and one special surprise. When I called to make the reservation a while beforehand, the owner, Nathalie Pettus, asked me if there was any special wine we liked. I told her about the wine we had had the night we got engaged. Sure enough, that very same wine was waiting for us in our room, along with a great sampling of local chocolates. We poured ourselves two glasses of brandy and hopped into the jacuzzi bathtub, where we relaxed, laughed, and enjoyed a drink together. Afterwards, we got into our comfortable robes provided by Overlook Farm, and hopped into our luxurious bed. Thank you so much, Overlook Farm. We will be back many, many times. I give this experience an A++ on the romantic scale!

Wonderful

The properties grounds are a sublime mix of natural landscape and beautifully cultivated floral gardens. This setting provides the backdrop for the Greek inspired jewel known as Rackheath House. Truly a wonderful property with such attention to detail; the outdoor chess set, hammock by the pond, the covered veranda, and the open air patio with fire pit attest to the limitless ways to relax, The inside of the house does not disappoint either with opulent furnishings and ah inducing hot tub enclosed within a well-designed solarium. My husband and I were quite pleased with our morning meals and the availability of coffee plus filtered water. There is a full kitchen, so if there is something in particular you cannot do without, just bring it along. We dined at the Station for all other meals. We highly recommend the tasting menu; by allowing the Chef to demonstrate his mastery and artistry of culinary skills results in a divine epicurean experience. A side note, if you enjoy astronomy there are perfect dark skies at Rackheath House awaiting the telescope. Lastly a thank you to all involved with Rackheath House and The Station. It was our pleasure meeting everyone and thank you again for your hospitality

Our Romantic One Night Away

My husband and I were looking for just a one night giveaway to relax and enjoy some time together without our children. After looking online I found this jewel of a spot just north of us and figured we would give it a try. When calling I felt like the staff really wanted us to enjoy every minute of our stay and we did just that. Walking into our room we found rose petals to greet us and insure we started the stay off with romance. We fell in love with our inn just then. The room was amazing and had everything and more than what I could imagine. The décor was impressive, the relaxing hot tub that we enjoyed, and the delightful breakfast that was served to us the next day. This romantic and peaceful night away is just what we needed. I want to thank the staff at Overlook Farm for making our night away perfect.
