Description

Circa 1894. This 23-room duplex, was built by pioneer industrialist A.A. Cooper as a wedding gift for his daughter Nell. The side occupied by Nell's family is of grand Victorian decor, generously embellished with turrets and porches. Maple and oak woodwork, beveled, leaded and stained-glass windows and marble and tile fireplaces are elegant features. Dubuque conservationists and business people converted the mansion into a luxurious antique-filled inn.

New Year's 2014 3-nights

The Redstone Inn is a beautiful and cozy historic mansion!! Upon entrance, you feel as though you are stepping into a different period. My boyfriend and I visited Dubuque for a three-night romantic get-a-way to celebrate New Year’s 2014. The mansion’s hand-carved wood detail and antique Oriental-Victorian furniture was exquisite. Historic photographs and artist rendition paintings sprinkle the walls and tables of every room and suite throughout the mansion and adds an intimate touch of 19th-century life to the ambiance. Robert, the Inn Keeper, was an excellent host! He carried our bags up three stories to our room and surprised us with a complimentary bottle of white wine. Every morning, Robert cooked gourmet breakfast sandwiches and baked hot yams alongside a continental breakfast (orange/pear/grape juice/milk/tea, doughnuts/breakfast rolls/fresh cut fruit/yogurt/nuts/raisins/cranberries, etc.) to prepare us for the day. We stayed in the Waller Room Suite and could not have been more pleased with the room’s accommodations. A snow storm hit day-two of the trip, and we could not have been cozier stuck indoors in our room, with the hot tub, shower, zone controlled heating and cooling vent, WI-FI to research local restaurant menus/events/tourist activities, flat screen TV/unlimited cable access, board games, refrigerator/microwave, and queen-size bed. If it weren't for the snow storm that hindered day-time activities – thanks to the Redstone Inn – for a VERY romantic stay in Dubuque. I also would like to thank HYVEE for the timely delivery on the dozen roses and spa/cheese gift basket that I ordered as a surprise for my boyfriend to our room! He was so excited to bask in these extra touches!! Our host, Robert’s conversation over breakfast, and his knowledge of Dubuque's downtown attractions, was an added bonus to our stay. (just a side note: if you do stay at the Inn on an off-holiday, be prepared to find your own metered parking. Parking is not included with the Inn, we found this out by getting a ticket across the street in the parking lot, which Robert paid for, due to prior miscommunications regarding parking).
