Historic Interest

Begun on the banks of the Missouri River in 1864 and completed in 1869 by riverboat baron Capt. Joseph Kinney, this magnificent Second Empire Baroque mansion served as the model for Missouri's Governor's Mansion. Built of the finest materials, cypress and brick, eleven Carerra marble fireplaces from Italy- from the same quarry from which Michaelangelo obtained marble for his fabulous works- handcarved mahogany grand staircase, 300-pound walnut doors, and the 1844 Chickering grand piano which graced the parlor for Rivercene's first family remains there today.
