a very homey, friendly place

Normally I stay at business hotels. Robin's Nest was a nice change - like staying with dear, welcoming friends. Highly recommended.

Would not recommend

To be honest our stay in Robin's Nest wasn't exactly a pleasure. -late risers can help themselves to breakfast. We wanted to have breakfast at 10:30 and there was nothing edible in the fridge. No bread, no muffins, nothing to put on bread and the worst thing: rotten fruits in a bowl! Left without having breakfast... -TV didn't work -bubbles in hot tub didn't work -everything looks messy and dusty

Management Response
Dear Iloveinns, Thanks so much for the heads up on the negative review. Our business plan, and our hearts, are centered on our guests. We have no greater wish than to give a good stay. I didn't know they were unhappy or I would have made it right. This is a couple from Amsterdam, Netherlands. I only saw them the last morning. Let me address their issues: * They hit our fridge around 11:00 a.m. on their last morning. That week we had ten to fourteen for breakfast every morning. We were very low on provisions. They brought their displeasure to my attention about an hour before their departure that morning. I personally prepared them toast, fresh strawberries, coffee, etc. on Cindy's front porch as they awaited their cab. *There are two TV remotes in Cindy's. One: TV; second: cable box. Living outside the U.S., perhaps they weren't familiar with the cumbersome process. Housekeeping tells me we keep the TV remote out of sight but they found it. They thought it was inoperable because they used the wrong remote. We now have only one remote in the room. *We are having trouble with the whirlpool and we inadvertently didn't give them a heads up and/or offer another room. Our mistake. They booked through a third party, and we simply didn't catch it. * I can't identify "dirty and messy". My head housekeeper of 12 years is a stern taskmaster when it comes to the cleanliness of the Inn. Her ratings are as high as our breakfasts. Thank you for the opportunity to respond. Our mistakes are never through a lackadaisical work ethic. -- Robin at Robin's Nest

Better than home in Houston

I LOVED the Robin's Nest Inn. From the moment I called to inquire about availability, Robin, THE Robin of Robin's Nest made me feel like a very welcome guest. The room was lovely, my special request for an early breakfast was accommodated happily, and the food was great and plentiful!. And when I left my ipod, they quickly had it in the mail to me overnight. I would definitely stay here again, whenever I return to Houston!

Robin’s Nest is now our home away f

You’ll enjoy a quiet residential location, great food, comfortable accommodations and unique Victorian décor throughout. But, above all, you’ll enjoy the great conversations over breakfast. Jessica and the kitchen crew serve up terrific TexMex fare and Robin gets everyone involved in sharing their stories. She has a few great stories of her own to add to the mix. This is a true neighborhood B&B in a historic district of the city. Robin’s friends and neighbors sometimes join the guests to add their local color. Try it, you’ll like it!

Homey and relaxed

Robin's Nest is a homey and friendly house in a great, central location. The family-style breakfasts were delicious. Staff was friendly and unobtrusive. I definitely recommend it.

Worth every cent

Great place for a longer stay (short one's too, but you won't get to know Robin and her cooking as well). Breakfast is amazing! Be sure to ask about the nearby English pub for other meals. Nice rooms with privacy and security. Parking is on the street, but did not feel unsafe. There is not much areas to hang out other than one's room, but there are many near by adventures.

No host on-site. Sewer gas stench

My wife and I checked out after a few hours. The room smelled of sewer gas after a brief excursion to local attraction after checking in. The owner who supposedly lives on-site was not available and calls to the home went to voice mail. The housekeeper answered our voice mail with a phone call from across town and noted that the owner was not responding to her calls either. The housekeeper did attempt to relocate us to another inn but none were available. Our local weekend getaway was ruined. We checked out, not being able to talk to Host in person or on the phone. I have never felt so disconnected and unwanted in a B and B. Three days later I have yet to hear from the host. Invisible, uncaring host. Less than personal service. Seedy grounds. Poor overall review. Save your money and stay elsewhere says this local Houston tourist.

Management Response
"I'm sorry I wasn't reachable by phone as I may or may not have been able to assuage this guest. "Considering a dedicated, hard working staff, though, I have the following to say about this circumstance. We are never casual about our work. Everyone on my staff, as do I, enjoys their work and our guests are our number one priority. Had I smelled a prevailing odor I would have given all the guests a heads up and an option to cancel without any monetary responsibility therefor. * The City has been replacing some old sewer lines. The trucks are still in the neighborhood albeit a few blocks from Robin's Nest. Out of three completely full houses setting side by side (totaling nine rooms/suites), his was the only utterance of a sewer smell. Cindy's Room was booked before his arrival and has been booked consistently since he left, and I've had no other complaints. Had I been reachable, I could have put candles, etc., in the room if that would have assuaged his sense of smell. My assistant was overwhelmed by his hostility so didn't think of it. *He had asked for our Pioneers of Texas breakfast; we were looking forward to preparing it for him. I think we had 17 for breakfast that morning. Divine, flaky, home made biscuits, thinly sliced pork chops, Texas gravy, eggs, fruit, etc. * In terms of the "seedy" grounds: Houston has been through an unusually late, exceptionally hard, winter. I keep a lush, native, Gulf Coast garden. The grounds are not "seedy", they are recovering. I wish him well. Best, Robin

Perfect place to stay

We had our wedding here a few weeks ago and were extremely impressed and pleased with the staff and their attention to our special day. We spent our wedding night in Cindy's room--a cozy and comfortable place to spent the night. Breakfast the next morning was gorgeous. It was nice that Robin, the owner sat down and visited with us over coffee. This inn, for both overnight stays and weddings is an excellent value for the money spent. We certainly recommend, without hesitation, the Robin's Nest for any bride-to-be who wants to plan a classy, but affordable wedding. And, we also highly recommend the Nest as a perfect place to spend the night.
