Jacksonville bed and breakfast innkeepers often recommend The Beaches Museum and History Center "which offers exhibits and displays the recorded history of the beaches for over 100 years." The area was originally called Ruby Beach so named by the Skull family who were the first settlers here in the beaches area. The Jacksonville beach was originally named for their daughter, Ruby. The museum and history center features videos of life here at the beach through the years...wonderful pictures of early cars parked on the beach and those "attractive" bathing suits worn by the early bathing beauties. There are also many still photos and exhibits of old Jacksonville beach lore, including a full-size train engine in a glass case sitting on an original piece of the train track across the street from the museum in the Historical Park. In addition there are three small buildings in the Historical Park: The first Jacksonville Post Office; the Foreman's House (for the train); and the train depot. Stay in one of the Jacksonville, FL bed and breakfasts and the innkeepers will show you how to visit this lovely museum, (located 3 blocks east of the ocean and within a couple of blocks of the Sea Walk Pavilion which hosts concerts, festivals and movies). Admission for a morning or afternoon of fun at the Museum is $5.00 for Adults; $4.00 for Seniors; $3.00 for children ages 6 to 17; and free for children 6 and under. You can get hours from one of the Jacksonville bed and breakfast innkeepers. By Riverdale Inn.
