Would definitely recommend!

Gail was an absolutely ideal officiant! She was professional, courteous, and we actually learned a lot from her regarding wedding ceremonies in general. She was willing to work with our requests and needs. At first, we weren't going to do a rehearsal and ended up deciding to do one last minute, and she was happy to oblige us by attending. During the rehearsal, she was incredibly helpful in aiding our group through the motions in a calm and reassuring manner. On top of that, we were happy to see that she was able to provide a range of options for the ceremony. As a secular couple, we were thrilled to see that she could cater to our needs, while also paying tribute to some of our religious family members. We did a spiritual ceremony and loved the readings she selected, one of which was by Mark Twain. Also, we really loved the fact that she supports diversity and nontraditional couples. Would definitely recommend!

Wedding: 02/27/2016

Gail was super helpful from the moment we called. She sought to make it very personal for us even asking what our colors were so that she could match! She was a wonderful speaker and the presentation left tears in everyone's eyes. If I had to do my ceremony over I would hire her again in a heartbeat.

Everything that was advertised met and exceeded expectations

Staying at Shady Acres was a truly pleasant and relaxing experience. Everything that was advertised met and exceeded expectations. The property is beautiful, the beds couldn't be more comfortable, and the hosts were attentive and welcoming. Gayle and Ralph went out of their way to be friendly and accommodating to us during our visit. They put in extra time for planning and preparation to make our visit vegan-friendly (something we requested) and even let us meet their chickens! When a surprise snow shower fell the morning of our departure, Ralph and Gayle swept the pathway and brushed off our car before so we could head out safely and easily. Shady Acres is a beautiful place to relax, unwind, and enjoy yourself!

Great for Weddings

I can't say enough nice things about Gail. Gail was very accommodating to my needs while planning my wedding. She was quick to respond to me whenever I had a question and was very thorough with her answers. Gail met with me, my mother and mother-in-law at the Historic Hanover Courthouse a few weeks before my wedding so that I was able to see the inside and plan for a rain backup. We had a great time talking and planning together. The day of the wedding she was there early for us to get in and setup the few decorations that we had and she made sure that we had everything that we needed. I was very happy with her and have since recommended her and the Historic Hanover Courthouse to others.

Hospitality better than many higher end hotels.

The owners Gail and Ralph make you feel like friends not just guests. This place is small and quaint but in our opinion the hospitality is better than many of the hotels we've stayed in, even the higher end ones! If we are ever back this way we would definitely stay here again!!

One of my favorite B&Bs along Virginia's I-95 Corridor

If a rural retreat is more your style, this B&B in Hanover, Virginia is a short distance from exit-98 north of Richmond and will not disappoint. Inn keepers Ralph and Gail Olberg welcome guests to their charming country getaway, providing cozy accommodations, an incredibly comfortable sleep number bed, delicious Virginia chocolates and a tasty, farm-fresh breakfast. There's plenty of opportunity for enjoying the natural surroundings at Shady Acres. Take a walk around the property or sit on the porch; you may even see wild turkey, deer or a bald eagle at this tranquil inn. I had the pleasure of staying the night and enjoyed the experience of meeting the chickens responsible for my morning meal. I can't say that's ever happened to me at a hotel. Shady Acres is a short distance from Richmond, Kings Dominion and 90-minutes south of Washington, DC.

Happy Anniversary

Just wanted to say how much my husband and I enjoyed our stay at Shady Acres to celebrate our anniversary. It was great watching the sunset from the front porch while sipping tea. We enjoyed Walker, the dog, Romeo the rooster and Sandi and her 4 chicks. Hard to believe all your chickens have names. Seeing all the wonderful antiques and hearing the stories behind some of them was very interesting. Our breakfast of eggs and country sausage was also a hit. Am going to recommend your place to our friends. Sincerely, Gee and Jack S

Very Convenient

My husband and I stayed at Shady Acres B&B while in the area for the Secretariat Celebration held at the nearby Meadow Event Park and truly enjoyed the accommodations. The setting is very convenient, but it is away from the hustle and bustle. Breakfasts are delicious, especially the eggs produced by the friendly resident free-range chickens. We saw baby squirrels and enjoyed the company of the resident fur-baby. The rooms are lovely. The beds are especially comfy, and we were able to enjoy Duke basketball on the super nice tv. The room was cozy and nice. I recommend a stay at their B&B wholeheartedly. Thank you for reading. Mary Mc.
