Very quaint and quiet. Wonderful service. Would definitely stay again! The area was beautiful. I enjoyed the champagne breakfast with fresh fruit, fresh croissants and eggs benedict. If you are looking for a get away near wine country, this is a great choice!

Cozy B & B in great location
My girlfriends and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Shady Oaks. The owner John was extremely genuine and willing to take time out to offer input on restaurants, vineyards, and other activities. He was also great company during the wine and cheese hour. We enjoyed getting to know other guests during the delicious champagne breakfasts as well. This is definitely the way to go while in Napa valley, and Shady Oaks is in a GREAT location. I am glad we found it!

Perfect place to stay in napa Valley
Stayed 2 nights, room was very clean, breakfast was delicious and inn keeper helped arrange a wine of wine tours that was out of this world. Location is perfect, because you're 15 minutes to the north end of the valley and 15 minutes to the City of Napa, and right in the middle of the biggest/best wineries. Highly recommend and we are making plans to visit Napa again with friends and stay in same place.

Wine Country
We have been visiting the Napa and Sonoma Valleys annually for the last 5 years. It is always difficult to find a place to stay in northern Napa Valley, but our stay this year at Shady Oaks Country Inn was fabulous. The staff were very friendly and the Inn was very cozy. Breakfasts were superb and they even treated us to wine and cheese tastings in the evenings. We will certainly look at booking a stay at Shady Oaks next year when we are planning our visit to Wine Country!

September 2011 stay
Stayed On: 9/2011
While not there when we arrived, innkeeper Lisa left clear instructions for check-in. She later joined us and the other guests, providing wine and cheese along with lively conversation. We stayed in the Country Blue room; everything was extremely clean and neat, well decorated and freshly painted; the bed was very comfortable. The food was fresh, very tasty and nicely presented. Everything about our stay was enjoyable. We have stayed at many B&Bs over the years and not all were good experiences. It's no mystery why the Runnells have been successful operators for over 25 years! We'd highly recommend a stay here.

A Wine country great
We stayed at Shady Oaks in November of 2009. What a perfect location. We could walk across the street to Kellham Vineyards. The innkeeper Jenna was so helpfull with all of our plans. She got us into barrell tastings and small out of the way wineries. The rooms were very comfortable and the breakfast was to die for.

Peaceful and Serene Oasis
Business required my husband and me to be in St. Helena for the weekend. Wanting to avoid the business crowd, I researched B & B's and selected Shady Oaks. What a wonderful find. Located well off the main roads, it is peaceful and quiet, and very easy to find. Our Winery Room, in the small adjacent building, was charming and atmospheric, with rock wall and lovely antiques. Morning breakfast, served outside on the wisteria-covered patio, was fabulous and filling. Best of all, hosts Lisa and John made us feel like we were visiting the home of long-time dear friends. This will definitely be OUR PLACE on return visits to Napa Valley.

If you're visiting Napa Valley, whether it's your first time or an annual trip to the area, staying at a top notch Bed & Breakfast is a must. I had the pleasuring of being hosted at one such establishment, Shady Oaks Country Inn, during my stay. Situated right in the heart of Napa Valley, Shady Oaks is in a centralized location perfect for an entire Napa stay {for a few days or a whole week}: just a few minutes from St. Helena and surrounded by wineries and wonderful restaurants. This B&B has 5 bedrooms and is fully equipped with HD Tv's and wifi for guests to enjoy {not like you'll be needing either of those amenities in Napa, just relax!}.
Upon my arrival in the evening, I was greeted by the owner himself along with a friendly staff member. Wine and cheese is served every night, allowing guests to not only meet one another but also interact with 28 year Napa Valley natives and inn owners John and Lisa Runnells. They're so welcoming and are a great resource for suggesting hidden local eats and recommended experiences! I peaked in each room to get a feel for the entire house which is quaintly decorated making guests feel right at home. The following morning I rose out of a plush bed in the County Blue Room to the knock of a woman asking if I would like to start breakfast with a mimosa or orange juice -- now that's the right way to kick-start my morning. Our breakfast spread was absolutely superb with fresh grapefruit, homemade croissants, and eggs Benedict -- read more about my dining experience in Guide to Napa Valley.
