Description
Circa 1860. In the center of the historic area, the Terry House is a three-and-a-half-story brick Federal townhouse with long double verandas, overlooking a half acre of beautifully landscaped back gardens that slope down to Battery Park which fronts on the Delaware River. Inside the inn, frieze work, ornately carved woodwork and red pine floors are elegantly set off with Oriental rugs, period antiques and paintings. Guest rooms look out to the park or onto Market Square and the Court House. Breakfast casseroles, breads and fruit are served in the dining room. New Castle was surveyed by Peter Stuyvesant in 1651 and William Penn landed here in 1682. Museums and gardens are abundant and include Longwood Gardens, Winterthur Museum, Brandywine River Museum, and Nemour Mansion and Gardens.
