Description
Circa 1869. The Old Fillmore County Jail is better known these days as the Jail House Inn. The current "jailers" are anything but gruff to their guests, who are treated to one of the Midwest's most unique inn settings. The striking Italianate structure, featured in the National Register of Historic Places, offers authentic Victorian decor in its 12 fascinating rooms, including the Cell Block, where guests actually sleep behind bars, the Detention Room and Master Bedroom, with a china tub weighing nearly half a ton. After guests are sprung for the day, they are free to explore the state's historic bluff country. Tours of nearby caves and a fish hatchery are just a few of the activities available.
