Circa 1730. Remodeled for comfort and privacy, this Pre-Revolutionary War, Antique Colonial house is an ideal place to be pampered and served with joy. An old sea captain's home with wide pumpkin pine floors, the foyer gives access to a large common room and fireside sitting area. Listen to classical music or watch cable TV. Attractive guest bedrooms offer a restful stay. Sleep on a four-poster bed under a skylight in the romantic Lighthouse Suite with a decorative fireplace. Wake up to Chef Barbara's breakfast in the dining room. Splendidly landscaped gardens are resplendent with hollies, hydrangeas, roses, rhododendrons and cherry trees.

Describe Garden and Grounds

The beautiful landscaped gardens feature hydrangea, daisies, tulips, roses, and our prize lillies which resemble bean stalks as they climb over the kitchen bay window to the sky. As one looks out the sunroom doors, our guest is amazed at the color, the magnificent Hollies which rise well above 20 feet, and the fountain, a favorite watering hole for all kinds of birds.

WE enjoyed our 3 nights stay. The breakfast was "to die" for! The amount was so generous and also very delicious, different each day. Peter and Barbara are very friendly and helpful with directions and the local history.

Very disappointed

My wife and I stayed two nights at the Joy House last week and were VERY disappointed. The house was quite dirty (scum in the sink and shower!) and nothing like the pictures. The breakfast was terrible too. We could only stomach a couple of bites. It's a real shame because the owner was extremely nice and the house seemed to have a lot of potential. Maybe it's different during tourist season but I wouldn't give it another chance.
