Romantic, gracious, lovely retreat

When I stay at a B&B I look for clean, sun filled rooms with serene, tasteful decor encompassing inviting beds with delicious beddings. I prefer lovingly restored historic homes with stories to tell. Common rooms that beckon to you with fire places and spaces for reading, relaxing, and socializing. Strategically placed books, magazines, movies and board games. Generous availability of drinks and snacks. Gorgeous bathrooms stocked with amenities. The warm, enticing smell of breakfast that lures you to the table in your robe and slippers. The Pawling House was all this and more. Set away from the road in a thicket of trees nestled behind a babbling brook this is one of the best and most romantic B&Bs I have ever enjoyed. Barbara is helpful and warm. She will show you around and make sure you're settled then disappears leaving you to enjoy the house as if it's your own. The grounds are lovely and I particularly enjoyed sitting on the Adirondack chairs in front of the brook gazing at the stars and indulging in a glass of wine. An amenity closet available to all guests providing anything you may have forgotten or those few items you wished you had. One can stroll to the historic and scenic town of Pawling for dinner, sightseeing or shopping, so convenient! Fresh flowers, plush chairs, gorgeous, bright wooden floors, falling asleep to the sounds of a babbling brook, a variety of goodies and drinks available all day this is a place where you are lavishly taken care of. Ahhhh....
