Tillworth is truly a retreat. A haven.
 Our greeting was so warm and welcoming. Bernard and Marilyn, the owners, immediately felt like friends, or at least people that I wanted to be my friends! They so attended to us and in their casual, comfortable way made us feel at home. The Sentinel House was a beautiful, unique and memorable setting for our anniversary. It actually does stand sentinel overlooking the rolling property. The fragrance of the wood greets you right away on entering the cozy, sunny main room....the smell of burnished plank floors, the original boards making up the walls, transported here and rebuilt. But I could not wait to put a quilt and pillow on the front porch and take a peaceful nap 
in the cool afternoon breeze. We walked up the road at dusk to a 
symphony of cicadas and crickets. And feasted on the porch of our cottage later under the starlight and moonlight, in the glorious evening quietness. Then the antique furnishings, the claw foot tub, and crisp fine linens on the bed welcomed us to a peaceful night. Our morning was filled with really good coffee and wonderful food, personally prepared and served by the owners and served outdoors in the brilliant sunshine. And even though the food was a treat, I must say that their company was the highlight of the morning for me. Bernard and Marilyn were an amazing find. What storytellers...in words and incredible photographs. And such great souls. And of course, the surroundings beckon. Don't miss the nearby towns, the local art and artists (including Bernard and Marilyn), the antiques, the food, the many local characters. But above all, sink into the Sentinel House and enjoy the care and company of the Mendozas.
