Description

Circa 1742. Classic appointments define this historic New England Dormered Cape with antiques and traditional furnishings. Hike the 41 acres of pasture, woodlands and a beaver pond. Pick wild berries. The three-season porch overlooks the two-acre lawn and flower gardens. Play horseshoes, volleyball and badminton. The Common Room has games, books, TV/DVD/VCR and a movie library. Read or chat in the alcove area at the top of the stairs. Stay in a comfortable guest bedroom or in the suite with a whirlpool tub and sitting room. A generous breakfast is served on china and crystal at the tiger-grained table with Windsor chairs in the fireside dining room with wide plank floors and beamed ceiling. The central location is on the Strafford-Bow Lake Center bike route.

Historic Interest

Initial structure built in 1782 and completed in 1820. In the 1880s, John Mark Moses, the famous authority on genealogy, lived here and spent much of his time studying the early history of the region. His work is captured in three volumes that can be found at the NH Historical Society. The site was the largest peach orchard in NH (no longer in operation).
