Rest and Reflect

Shelby Cottage is a reflection of the rich heritage of the area. As I read about Isaac Shelby, it caused me to reflect on the great men and women who sacrificed much of their lives to make this state and country the “land of the free and the home of the brave”. I pray that we’ll be a nation under God. The cottage is so very warm and cozy. A great place to rest and reflect. Thank you for allowing me to stay in such a wonderful place! Bill, Cumming GA

Peaceful Home Base

Came to tiny Stanford for a birthday built for two. Toured Makers mark Distillery, ate at the Bluebird Café (twice!), bought some soaps, went to the Pioneer Playhouse for some dinner and theater, and enjoyed the great company of some local friends. This house was the perfect, peaceful home base. Thanks you so much for yall’s southern hospitality! We hope to come back again sometime. Austin TX

Richly Blessed

If you have an opportunity to meet and spend some time with former mayor, Eddie Carter, you will be richly blessed. We feel that God had a hand in leading us to him. He and two other City Council members were coming out of council meeting. We were searching for a Bed & Breakfast (which GPS indicated was in this area) but found it (Howard’s B&B) no longer existed. We stopped at the next choice – a street over from here but no one was home (Bishop House). We then made a visit to the Family Dollar store which started a series of minor miracles. A very courteous employee of the Family Dollar told us to go over one street to some new places that recently opened. If we had gone, without delay, we would have missed Eddie (you will find his name on the train station plaque & some literature pieces of the area). Instead, we missed our street and were delayed so councilmen ended their meeting and as God arranged, were waiting in the parking lot – as it turned out – for us! We said, “you gentlemen look like you know what’s going on around here” not knowing they were city council members and the former mayor. All of the council members were so friendly and interested in helping us – we knew we were in the right place at the right time! Eddie escorted us to the Shelby Cottage, called manager Carrie at her home and waited with us while Carrie (another of God’s special people you need to know – visit the shop she manages on Main Street called Kentucky Soaps and Such). Carrie drove from home, after hours, to register us at Shelby Cottage and make sure everything we needed was taken care of. Thanks be to God for Eddie and Carrie caring enough to care for us in a special way! They both checked on us several times. Then Eddie (he now has a private tour guide service, hahaha) went with us the next day to show us historic places he and other city officials got grants to preserve and restore. Don’t miss eating at the Bluebird restaurant and Coleman’s Drug Store & Deli on Main. (better than any chain type place). First class people and food at those places! We are so grateful God led us to this area! P.S. We ate at Bluebird three times! Met and talked with interesting Chef Bill Hawkins, met the owner of Coleman’s and had delicious homemade pie and ice cream. P.S.S. Shakertown (northwest of here) and Bread of Life Café (supporting a children’s home southwest of here in the Amish/Mennonite area) are good side trips. Crossville TN

Thoughtful Design

This home away from home is spare and honest. It’s absence of pretense allows me to relax and enjoy its very fine attention to detail. Someone selfless must have designed this place – it shows much thought of its temporary tenants. Only in a small country town like this would one find something so special and hospitable. Thank you.
