Chadds Ford has for many decades been known as the home of the Wyeth family of artists, N.C. Wyeth his son Andrew and grandson Jamie, being the most popular. Coming to Chadds Ford and not visiting the Brandywine River Museum, home of an outstanding collection of their collective works would be a big mistake. Tours of N.C.'s home and studio and the Kuerner Farm, the scene of hundreds of Andy's paintings, are available, all but the winter months. Chadds Ford's Winterthur Estate and Gardens, is a 200+ room, fully furnished, mansion with a 900-acre garden and Nemours, is often referred to as the Versailles of the US, considering that the mansion has 24 carat gold trim, here and there and the gardens were fashioned after Louis VI's little garden outside of Paris, it's a fairly apt description. The last gift of the DuPont family to the American people is the Hagley Museum, the original family mansion and Gunpowder works, where they first started to amass their fortune. Chadds Ford is also home to the first and largest Revolutionary War Battlefield; the Brandywine Battlefield, commemorating the first time the country was invaded by foreigners ironically on 9/11.
