Challis is a city in Idaho's Custer County that is populated only by a thousand people. Despite its small population, you can still expect to experience the warmth of the people once you get to any Challis bed and breakfast inn. You would be surprised to see that most of the buildings in the city are relatively new. This is because most of the older ones were leveled by a strong earthquake in 1983. However, since the disaster, Challis has been able to recover and become a modern city. It has a number of shops in the main commercial district which are frequented by travelers, and even the locals of Challis. The city also has a several places for dining such as Antonio's Pizza and Pasta.

Challis small town feel is what it is most proud of. This also happens to be the reason why people come to visit and stay for a few days at Challis bed and breakfast inns. The Main Street itself can provide proof of such impression. Walk along it and catch sight of the shops lining the street, the rustic and lovely sight you would miss in a city. Just at the outskirts of Challis, is the beautiful and pristine Salmon-Challis National Forest. The forest is home of many other natural wonders that never ceases to amaze trekkers. Even the earthquake that shook Challis in 1983 managed to create another interesting site; a fault in Lost River Mountain Range. Visitors usually proceed to the Yankee Fork to learn more about the city.
