Excellent Inn for Bar Harbor

Right near everything in downtown Bar Harbor, yet still quiet and peaceful. The breakfasts, hospitality, and accommodations are superb. We would definitely stay here again.

The Only Place To Stay!

My wife and I have been coming to Bar Harbor for 20+ years. There is only one place to stay in Bar Harbor! Need we say more? By the way, more than 70 percent of the guests at the Hearthside are multiple time return guests.

A Wonderful Place to Stay

We stayed at Hearthside B&B for 4 nights at the end of September, and we highly recommend it to anyone. Susan and Barry are wonderful hosts who made us feel truly at home. Every little detail was taken care of during our stay at Hearthside B&B--the rooms were cozy and beautifully decorated, the common areas warm and inviting, and the breakfasts superb. Susan and Barry also went out of their way to prepare gluten-free foods for my husband who cannot eat gluten (including delicious gluten-free brownies every afternoon. Susan and Barry are also very knowledgeable about the area and all it has to offer; they are always glad to provide recommendations and their living room is filled with very helpful guides. Hearthside is also very conveniently located right in the center of town, but still hidden away on a quiet street. Bar Harbor is a beautiful place, and Hearthside B&B is a true gem. Highly recommended if you are looking for a quiet, tranquil, relaxing place to call your home while you are enjoying the beauty of this region. We hope to be back!

Highly recommended

Highly Recommended Hearthside Bed & Breakfast We absolutely loved our stay at the Hearthside B&B. Susan and Barry are the greatest -- very fun and down to earth. We took their recommendations on some really fun activities like kayaking and walking across the sand bar to Bar Island, as well as their recommendations on restaurants, and we were always pleased! We stayed for a long time and Susan and Barry prepared a different breakfast every day -- and every one of them was delicious! Afternoon tea was lovely, too, and there were yummy cookies and hot chocolate as well. Our room was beautiful and cozy (we snuck peeks at the other rooms and they were beautiful, too). The location is fantastic -- right in the middle of town but on a small, quiet street. We highly recommend this B&B and we will certainly return there for our future visits to Bar Harbor. Erin C.

Step Back and Relax

As first time visitors to beautiful Bar Harbor we were enthralled with the overall feel of this seaside town. It extended to our B&B where we felt at home in the large comfortable house. The owners, Barry and Susan, were very hospitable and offered excellent advice on the "to do" list for a brief two day stay, including use of a CD with a self directed tour of Acadia National Park - a must see. Breakfast was different each day and included some fresh baked goodies. Afternoon tea included warm cookies, brownies or shortbread as well as choice of many teas and coffees. Our room was spacious, with a new king size bed with elegant bedding; a whirlpool tub, and a CD player that offered quiet, relaxing music. I found out that I could survive easily without a TV, even though this was the finale of American Idol! A memorable trip for us and one that beckons us back!

Wonderful B&B

We stayed here for 6 nights & had a wonderful time - hosts were warm, welcoming but unobtrusive. They anticipated our needs(eg offered to store luggage when we went further along coast for a night & placed it in our room ready on our return). The location is great, rooms were large & very comfortable, breakfasts were fabulous! We'd recommend it very highly!

The Best

This was without a doubt one of the best B&B's that we have ever stayed in. Susan and Barry have tried to think of every possible need and it made out stay very comfortable. Everything was excellent from the breakfast to the comfort of the rooms, to the afternoon snacks and the assistance on the local attractions and restaurants.

Wonderful Experience

This a perfect location for exploring Bar Harbor and Acadia Park. Rooms were quiet, beautiful, individually decorated, and comfortable. The innkeepers had thought of everything. Breakfast was outstanding - different every morning. We've stayed in lots of B&Bs, but my husband said he'd never been in one that was as well-maintained as this one - immaculate and beautiful.

a wonderful B&B

this place was great! the house is gorgeous, the rooms well taken care of and the innkeepers barry and susan were lovely, entertaining, informative and sociable. we were in bar harbor the night before staying somewhere else and hoped we could bring our things over to the hearthside early before embarking on our big day biking acadia. susan was very accommodating and let us bring our things over and even park there for the day. our room wasn't ready yet so we left our bags in a corner of the living room. when we returned they had been taken up to our room which was extra nice since my bag as heavy! breakfast was delicious and i liked the fact that they had alternate items such as cereal and granola, bagels etc. in case you didn't like the day's entree. we didn't have to worry about that -- delicious blueberry pancakes preceeded by a warm bowl of peach crisp. the option of eating outside was also wonderful. we would definitely return.

Bar Harbor Beauty!

Wonderful inn with congenial hosts and delicious breakfasts! Need suggestions for making the most of your Acadia visit? Need dinner ideas? Susan and Barry know the answers. Especially good place to stay if you have specific dietary needs. Rooms are beautiful; check out the Winston Churchill for a private porch. Can't wait to visit them again!

Romantic Getaway

Susan and Barry are excellent/outstanding hosts. Everything was perfect from check in to check out. Breakfast was THE BEST. Their dinner restaurant suggestions couldn't have been better. The Duke of Wellington room was very comfortable and a nice place to relax. We enjoyed ourselves tremendously.

Absolutely perfect experience.

My fiancee and I recently got engaged in Bar Harbor and beforehand we chose Hearthside to be the focal point of our stay based on the quaint, cottage like feel. We stayed at other bed and breakfast's before but Susan and Barry were the best innkeepers we've ever had. I had Susan even help out with the engagement plan, asking her to give recommendations on the exact restaurant I planned on asking my girlfriend. She filled the role perfectly and naturally and that made the experience even better. They delivered champagne to our room after our engagement without us knowing, which made the night that much more special. It was so thoughtful and they went above and beyond. The breakfast was hot and delicious each day and they tended to anything we needed. We loved our experience so much that we took pictures with them to ensure they were part of our story, forever. We will definitely be back possibly to celebrate an anniversary. We'll make one phone call on where to stay. That's Hearthside Inn. Thank you so much Susan and Barry.

Exceptional as always!

See my review from 2009. It is now 2015 and we have stayed at the Hearthside many times more since then, The new owners, Bar Harbor natives, are as exceptional as the previous owners. Everything is in order, every detail is cared for. Breakfasts are wonderful. And just ask Brian about the Island, born there, he knows everything about its current ant past history and Acadia National park is a treasure. The only problem is that you will book and we will not be able to get a reservation! Allan Wulff

Best B&B in Bar Harbor, ME

My daughter and I went to Bar Harbor for the day and we were booking the day of and wouldn't be arriving until midnight and they made arrangements for the late arrival. We booked one of their smaller rooms and after I booked they called me back and upgraded us to a room on the second floor to make it easier for us when we arrived. They booked us in the Emily Dickinson room. The room with bathroom was excellent and very large and exceptionally clean! The next morning for breakfast they said we can either have a seat outside at a table for 2 or eat at the big table inside. When we sat down we were served smoothies (excellent) and then the main course of any style eggs with bacon and toast and bread pudding that was to die for! This was absolutely the best Bed & Breakfast I have stayed in. When talking with Catherine & Brian after breakfast, I found out they had just taken over the B&B in I believe March or May (can't remember)! You would think they have been doing this for years. Wonderful Job! Illinois Mom & Daughter (by the way my 21 year old daughter loved it) Debbie & Erin P.S. I will be posting on every site they advertise on. I wish we could have stayed longer.
