Description
Circa 1849. Considered to be among the best decorated inns in California, one of the guest rooms in the Captain Walsh House has been featured on the cover of Better Homes & Gardens, as well as the Bed & Breakfast Encyclopedia. The highly imaginative decor is referred to as Gothic-whimsy by the innkeeper. Once home to the daughter of California's first governor, the Gothic Revival house was constructed in Boston, dismantled, shipped around the Horn, and reconstructed in Benicia. Ask for the warm and inviting Library Room, which includes a reading loft and secret passageway, as well as hundreds of books, or the Epiphania Room with a majestic four-poster canopy bed, 14-foot vaulted ceilings and a stunning Gothic window looking out over the water. Starched bed linens, antiques and flowers complete the setting. A house breakfast speciality is smoked quail and herb eggs. An acre of grounds surrounds the inn. San Francisco is 30 minutes away.
