Shoo Fly Pie

Description: A traditional PA Dutch recipe from Grandma Smucker's kitchen. Ingredients in shoo fly pie were able to be pulled off the shelf during the winter months, when fresh fruits were not available for baking. Ingredients: BOTTOM: 1 cup molasses 1/2 cup brown sugar 2 eggs, beaten 1 cup hot water 1 tsp baking soda dissolved in hot water Crumbs: 2 cups flour 1/3 cup shortening 3/4 cup brown sugar Directions: Mix bottom ingredients together adding baking soda last. Pour into pie shell. Mix crumbs together with hands or fork, sprinkle on top. Bake at 400 degrees for 10 minutes and 350 degrees for 50 minutes.
