Description

Circa 1884. Maple trees shade this sturdy Queen Anne home, a block from White Lake. A screened porch filled with white wicker and an upstairs coffee room are leisurely retreats. Parquet floors in the dining room, antique furnishings and chandeliers add to the comfortable decor. Chicken and broccoli quiche is a favorite breakfast recipe. Cross the street for summer theater or walk to shops and restaurants nearby.

Michigan Apple Muffins

Bike rides past the many orchards will whet your appetite for a variety of apple delights. The following muffin recipe is a favorite of guests at the White Swan Inn

Makes Even an Ugly Duckling Comfy!

I have stayed at the lovely White Swan twice and would gladly do so again, given the chance. The innkeepers, Ron & Cathy, are personable and aim to please. Local produce (when available) is incorporated into the breakfast menu. (Michigan blueberries are the best!) And like many B&B owners/managers these days, yummy recipes are shared with guests and those on their mailing list. The last time I stayed at the White Swan I was traveling solo and stayed in the Mariner room where I was quite comfortable. The thing I like best about this B&B is the location. It's very close to where I grew up so I can easily walk and shop on Colby Street or drive just a short distance to visit friends and family. Finally I appreciate that it's in an historic home, renovated perfectly for hospitality and rest.

InnSide Tip - Do Visit Montague!
Just across the causeway, on the other side of the river and lake is the small town of Montague. It's just a few minutes away from Whitehall and has some of its own charm like the World's Largest Weathervane, Dog 'n Suds drive-in, and the hometown of Miss America 1961. Drive along Old Channel Trail, if you get a chance, and take in the scenery and the beach. Even in the rain or cooler temps., Lake Michigan is a wonderful sight to behold, and at least stick your toes in!
