Urban Retreat

My wife and I got married April 2016 and spent our first two married nights here. We have taken our wedding photographs outside on a beautiful April afternoon and book the Travelers rest for a mini honeymoon. Rosemary and staff are wonderful! We spent our first breakfast together on the porch overlooking the sun-drenched yard with the deer and birds. We are so happy to be able to stay such a wonderful bed-and-breakfast. We couldn't have asked for a better time. We are moving to Pittsburgh PA in a few months and will definitely be coming back to capture the feeling of our wedding weekend. Thank you so much for this wonderful urban retreat. See you soon! Emily and Alex

Softer Side

What is surprising pocket of humanity and gentility tucked into a corner of all the hustle and bustle of what I have come to think of Rochester. Up till now Rochester has meant doctors and hospitals and an airport they gave me access to friends and family. My visit to the Ellwanger Estate has changed that, with the lovely gardens and a place of wonderful hospitality. I hope to be able to come back and stay here and learn more about the softer side of Rochester. Thank you for the special touches that made this visit so comfortable. Jen August 2014

Surprised!

First, she surprised me with a wonderful dinner in Rochester and then blindfolded me to surprise me with an evening at the Ellwanger Estate bed-and-breakfast. She drove around the inner lip a few times, so I thought we weren't in the city anymore. She had come ahead and placed a beautiful Birchwood box on the mantelpiece. When we arrive, Rosemary greeted me by name and said congratulations! I thought it was for the completion of my internship! We went up to the room and there was an engagement ring in the box on the mantle. Obviously I said yes! We took a bottle of wine out to the covered porch and watch the speckled phone and her mother grays and play in the lawn, just next to the hidden straight. This has been the most magical night of my life! We can't wait to return for anniversary.

Didn't Want to Leave

We didn't want to leave… The house, the warm hug it gives you when we came in… Hard to say goodbye. Everything was wonderful! Rosemary did an exceptional table for breakfast. We will be back. Katie and Steve, November 2013

Deer, Wild Turkey

We woke this morning in time to see deer grazing from the Travelers rest window and wild turkey on the lawn be on the front porch. It is very crisp outdoors -expect to see snow – the gardens are the at rest for the season. Still, the home is beautiful to behold. Looking forward to enjoying a breakfast others have prays before us and then heading out for some visits to wineries, walks on the grounds, and perhaps a visit to a museum.

Plan to Return

As close to a castle as will likely get, With Rosemary, best hostess we've ever met, the Ellwanger Organ a thrill for my son, and I'm psychotic - visit is done. But like MacArthur, we plan to return, for heavenly breakfast with biscuits we'll yearn. And artfully beautiful, comfortable bed with visions of birds circling our heads.

Inviting, Delicious

Dear Rosemary, we decided to describe our stay in maze of words… Warm, surprising, inviting, comfortable, eclectic, well appointed, delicious! You have found such a fabulous mixture of history and modern, we were just delighted by our lovely suit. Just when I'm lulled into thinking that I've stepped back in time - oops! There's another iPad and yes… another remote for the candles or the ceiling light. You are a delightful hostess and we have both enjoyed our time here and will forever have fond memories of our quirky polka-dot room! Warmest D and G, August 2014

Perfect Weekend

Dear Rosemary, this was our first time visiting Rochester as a couple, and our very first weekend as an engaged couple. We were completely charmed by the beauty of the house and of the grounds, and the Woodland suite was completely magical. We had the most perfect celebration weekend thanks to your kindness and hospitality. Thank you so very much, we can't wait to return as Mr. and Mrs. All our best, Carrie and James. July 2014

Paradise

Only an hour from my house in Buffalo but like a little paradise. This place is spectacular and we have gleaned many interesting ideas for the renovations we are doing on our own house. It's so serene and quiet-peaceful for an afternoon nap and a bottle of wine in the great room downstairs. Breakfast was lovely, especially the pear butter and bread. We will certainly be back soon, Rosemary has made our weekend away everything we had hoped for!
