James' Split Pea Stew

1 lb. Split peas, green and yellow (requires half bag of each or double the recipe)
1 lb. Country ham
6 medium turnips
1/2 lb. Carrots
1 large onion
4 cloves of garlic, minced fine
16 oz. Chicken stock
6 bay leaves
1 tbsp summer savory
1 tbsp paprika
1 tbsp oregano
1 tbsp basil
1 tbsp thyme
salt and pepper to taste
