Oatmeal Cake

Ingredients:
Cake:
1 cup oatmeal
1 1/2 cup boiling water
Pour water over oatmeal – let stand
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup white sugar
1/2 cup margarine
1 tsp baking soda
2 eggs
1 1/2 cup sifted flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon

Topping:
1 tblsp water
3/4 cup margarine
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 cup coconut
Shaved almonds.

Directions:
Cake:
Cream margarine and gradually add sugars and continue to cream.
Add eggs one at a time to cream mixture.
Then sift dry ingredients alternately with the cooled oatmeal into the cream mixture, ending with flour.
Bake in 10x13" pan (or two 8" cake pans) for 1/2 hour at 350 degrees

Topping:
Boil first three ingredients for one minute
Put coconut on cake while warm.
Sprinkle with almonds and broil until bubbly and toasty brown.
