Shoo-Fly Cake

Description: Breakfast cake or desert, this gooey delicacy rivals the famous shoo-fly pie from Amish Country. Ingredients: 4 cup white flour 1 cup shortening (or butter or margarine) 2 cup sugar Mix together (like pie crust) in a large bowl, reserving half cup of crumbs for top of cake. In another bowl, mix: 1 cup baking molasses (Brer Rabbit) 2 tsp. baking soda (level) 2 cups hot water Stir until mixed and some of the foam disappears. Directions: Add to the crumb mixture and stir lightly until blended. Put in a 9 X 13 in. cake pan that has been greased and floured. Put the 1/2 cup crumb mixture on top and bake for 50 minutes to one hour at 350 degrees.
