Vermont Pear Bread

From The Governor's Inn in Ludlow Vermont. An alternative to the standard quick bread. Pear bread is very simple and really good. There will be no leftovers.

9 TBS butter at room temp
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
pinch of nutmeg
1/4 cup buttermilk
1 cup coursely chopped ripe pears
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Cream butter, gradually beat in sugar. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Combine dry ingredients and add to egg mixture alternately with buttermilk. Fold in pears and vanilla. Add nuts. Pour into prepared loaf pan. Bake at 350 for 1 hour. Cool and slice
