Photo taken in 1928... The Inn was built in 1912. During the 1890s, development in our area was fueled by the arrival of colonies of immigrants from England, Switzerland, France and Italy. The original settlement bore the name of Charles B. Eddy, co-owner of the Eddy-Bissell Livestock Company. The cattleman recognized the value of diverting water from the Pecos River to the grazing lands on his Halagueno Ranch, which included present-day Carlsbad. Eddy, known as the “Pearl of the Pecos,” began as a company town for the massive irrigation and real estate development business. This house, now the Fiddler’s Inn Bed & Breakfast, was built in 1912. It wasn’t until 1918 that Carlsbad officially became a city. Carlsbad was known for being one of the earliest settlements in New Mexico with fire hydrants on every corner and residential electricity. It was a bustling community with over 12,000 cottonwood trees lining the streets. Now, we would like you to relax, and enjoy the aesthetic simplicity of our one-hundred-year-old inn.
