Grandma's Cut Out Cookies
Description:
Grandma would always make these cookies for my sister and I when we would make the long trip to her house. Hers were always circles, but I love to cut them into Christmas shapes, Easter shapes, or just fun shapes. I make them now for my own grandson! Ingredients: 3 cups flour 1/2 cup shortening 1/2 cup butter or margarine 1 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar 3 egg yolks 1/4 cup milk 1 cup sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla Directions: Cut shortening and butter into the dry ingredients in above group. Mix the remaining ingredients, then add gently to the first mixture. Chill. Roll out a small amount of dough at a time on lightly floured board using lightly floured rolling pin. Cut into desired shapes. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Decorate with sugars. Recipe Summary: Yield: 4 dozen Prep Time: 10 minutes plus chill time. Cook Time: about 8 minutes at 350 degrees.
