Lathrop House Compote Extraordinaire A La Clara

Healthful and delicious, traditional family recipe "just like Grandma used to make." A panache of prunes and apricots stewed with a cinnamon stick and with a dollop of whole milk yoghurt on top make a colorful sweet treat at the breakfast table. Enjoy!

Dried fruit of any kind. Favorites here are prunes and apricots for a tart contrast, but you can add cranberries, apples, peaches, pears, etc. Can be served in a bowl with or without toppings. Toppings can be whipped cream, whole milk yoghurt, or whipped skim milk, or you can add any flavored yoghurt or add the fruits to your hot or cold cereal.

Place fruit in saucepan with just enough water to cover, simmer with a cinnamon stick if you like until fruit is soft (about 15 minutes). Or you can cover with water in the serving bowl and do no cooking. The fruit will soften up by itself in about 12 hours and be just as good!
