Lathrop House Tzimmus By Any Other Name
Description:
Cook this and guests will be begging to peek in the kitchen, while the whole house is perfumed. Elegant version of a traditional Jewish recipe, perfect for the Sabbath table at our Kosher B&B. Turn into a multi-cultural feast by adding marshmallow topping Ingredients: Yams and prunes and or oranges. Directions: Wash and slice yams chosen for freshness and no spots. Slice about 1/4 inch thick, across the whole tuber and on the slant if you like the design. Slice oranges with the skin, very thin, discarding only the seeds. Layer in a glass baking dish or ceramic souffle dish, one layer at a time. Alternate one slice of yam and one slice of orange, or use sliced prunes instead or alternatingly with the orange. When the dish is completely filled with at least one layer (or more in the souffle dish) place in oven. Cook at 400-450 degrees, covering with aluminum foil for part of the time, so juices bake out but nothing blackens. Ready when yams are soft, about 3/4 hour. May be served hot or warm. Recipe Summary: Yield: I yam for 3-4 people Prep Time: 20 minutes Cook Time: Under an hour Comments: Other recipes by Lathrop House Bed and Breakfast: Lathrop House Compote Extraordinaire A La Clara Lathrop House Thriller Guacamole Lathrop House Cranberry Elegance Lathrop House Laughing Rhubarb Lathrop House Sweet And Sour Coleslaw Lottie's Way |
