Warm And Spicy Pears
Filed under: Breakfast, Fruits, Fruits - Pear.
Description: We serve two of the warmed pear halves per person with some of the cooked syrup in stemmed dessert dishes as a fruit starter for our breakfasts during the cold winter months in Minnesota. Add a dollop of whipped cream to the top of each serving Ingredients: 1 can (16 ounces) pear halves 1/3 cup packed brown sugar 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (I purchase this spice in the natural food section of the grocery store and the flavor is quite pungent) 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon Heavy whipping cream – whipped and sweetened to taste. Directions: Drain syrup from pears into a heavy 1 quart saucepan; set the pears aside. Add the brown sugar, nutmeg and cinnamon to the syrup. Bring to a boil over a medium high heat. Reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, for 5 minutes, stirring frequently. Add pears, stir slightly and then simmer about 5 minutes more or until heated through.
