Virginia Shenandoah Valley Bed & Breakfast Inns
This valley is perfect for history buffs and nature lovers. More than 2000 "military events" were recorded in Virginia during the Civil War. Visiting important sights is easy using the Shenandoah Valley "Alley of Invasion" map (visitshenandoah.indigofiles.com/…). Half of the fun in the Shenandoah Valley is underground at Luray Caverns (luraycaverns.com) where visitors can hear the world's only Stalacpipe Organ. It doesn't matter if it's raining or snowing outside for those who venture into the depths of Shenandoah Caverns (shenandoahcaverns.com), the only cavern in Virginia with an elevator and no stairs to climb. After going deep into the ground, go high into the sky on the Skyline Drive (nps.gov/shen/planyourvisit/…). Families will want to keep their eyes open for deer, black bear, and wild turkeys as they drive along the 105 miles of road with 75 overlooks (there are four entrances so visitors do not have to drive all 105 miles). A day of sightseeing can make anyone hungry so stop by the Route 11 Potato Chip Factory (rt11.com) and watch the tasty snacks fry up Monday through Saturday, 9am-noon. Be sure to purchase some bags of the kettle chips to wash down with wine from one of the local wineries.Area Map
