French Toast

Description:
This is so delicious you will eat it all even if you are not hungry.

Ingredients:
EGG MIXTURE:
2 loaves Italian bread (16 slices for 8 people)
12 large eggs
1 1/2 cups milk
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 heaping tsp. butterscotch pudding mix
2 apples (optional), peeled and sliced thin

TOPPING:
1 cup light brown sugar
1/4 lb. butter (1 stick)
2 tbsp. maple syrup
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 dash nutmeg

Directions:
Grease or butter a 9" x 13" pan
Slice bread diagonally into 3/4 to 1 inch slices, not including ends
Soak bread slices in egg mixture until egg is absorbed (a jelly roll pan works well for this)
Place bread (standing up) into greased pan
Insert apple slices in between bread slices

Topping:
Melt topping ingredients in microwave or on stove top
Pour over bread in pan, in between slices
Refrigerate overnight
Bake uncovered before serving: 375 for 45 minutes
Garnish as desired (sliced bananas & pecans over each serving is nice, and then sprinkled with 10x sugar
Serve with maple syrup and bacon or sausage.
