More than 900 inns are participating in the WVBBA program B&Bs For Vets launching Nov. 10th The 900 inns, representing 2700 free rooms donated, are the founding inns of the brand new program started this past summer by Kathleen Panek, innkeeper of Gillum House in W.V.
A plethora of publicity has materialized and some inns reported having their rooms claimed within 3 days of joining the program. At an average of $125 per room, this represents over $325,000.00 of revenue donated to active members of the military or veterans who served previously. Most of the inns are already planning to repeat the program in 2011.
One of the earlierst responses Panek received about the program was: Ms. Panek, "Thank you for your thoughtful gift to veterans on Veterans Day. My wife and I usually stay in pretty upscale hotels when we travel, but because of your kindness to my fellow veterans, we are going to start looking at B&B's. I hope many people do."
The overwhelming response from the military and veterans was, "thank you for thinking of us."
"We have bought the American Historic Inns, Bed and Breakfast and Country Inns books for the past 10 years - possibly longer. We just love them and have gotten a few of our friends hooked on them also. We have visited many states we wouldn't have without the free night certificate and it makes a great getaway with friends more enjoyable not having to worry about paying for a second night or where to go for breakfast. We have met many interesting people at the different inns we have stayed in and look forward to many more years of touring the US with our B&B books."Pat Johnson,St. Louis, MO
