What These 5 Websites Did Right

5 Websites That Will Inspire Your Next Re-Design

Below are inns we love and they all have good websites. You can get it right when you re-do your website and ensure your success by studying what they got right! (And our designers know how to easily Fix some aging websites with “good bones”.)

Wentworth Mansion

The websites in this 4-inn group are all about experiencing Charleston with friends and family. The site has adequate area information – just enough to give site visitors a good feel for what’s available. Most interesting on these sites: almost all photos (except for rooms) are about people and relationships. Kings Courtyard for example, shows 2 couples – one young and an older couple relaxing at the inn together, as well as 3 women at breakfast enjoying a conversation and a child in the courtyard. All the guestss/models photographed have smiles that are natural and make you feel their joy in being at the inn.

Chatham Bars Inn

Chatham Bars’ site is all about an authentic upscale Cape Cod experience. The site’s elegant feel is evoked with tones and shades of a classic color palette and a refined design. Interestingly, the Book Your Stay Button is in a non-conventional spot and it’s not with the rooms directly. Best of all is the mobile-friendly part – very well-designed. For instance, when viewing the site on a mobile device, the booking button stays constant. It’s really superb on mobile. There are a few inconsistencies here and there on the site that could easily be cleaned up.

The Avalon Hotel

This site sports a well worked photo gallery for a scenic island inn overlooking the ocean. The style of pages works and there’s a good BOOK button that’s in a natural position and stands out. There are well-thought out calls to action throughout the site. If you’ve been to Catalina you’ll recognize the tile pattern of the fountain that has been incorporated into the site, a nice local touch. Overall, the site instills confidence in selecting the inn as a destination. There’s a tad of awkwardness with elements of a wood design that is not part of the Catalina experience and doesn’t blend with the site. This element could be refined.

Orchard Hill Country Inn

This website gives a nice user experience throughout the site and especially an immediate feel of a beautiful craftsman home, with an appropriate color palette. An art deco ambiance adds to the interest. Rooms are missing something and the site seems to be selling the steak and not the sizzle. Maybe because it’s devoid of a sense of joyful expeirence often relayed by photos of  people or a sense of someone there – like a lit fireplace and a snack tray. We happen to love this inn and town and it would be a fabulous to add photos of people to really convey the experience. For instance, the specials that are all about relationship building have no relationship photos and would benefit by showing a couple having a good time.

White Barn Inn

This website has done a good job of achieving the prestige feel. There’s a clean elegant design that has a good responsive quality. This site’s look is easy to achieve for almost any inn. The modern up to date flat design makes for a really nice website. Note the inn’s clever Sunday Specials tab on the home page.
