Travel is a core part of many people’s identity, especially Americans and Europeans. So much so that “travel is the number one discretionary spend item for Europeans” according to Phocuswright research. But what does that mean during a pandemic?
It appears that travel is picking back up. 862,949 people passed through TSA checkpoints on August 17. While that is lower than the same date the year before, it is leaps and bounds above April 2020 numbers of 100,000 or less.
72% still plan to travel in 2020. One study of U.S. travelers shows that 72% still plan to travel in 2020. Those travelers are also opting for domestic travel with many planning road trips.
All the travel plans seem to be socially distant minded. Beach travel, skiing and golfing getaways, and breaks from city life are among the top 10 plans. .
