Regas Red Velvet Cake Secret Recipe

Don't ask--cause we're not tellin! It's a secret recipe not supposed to be shared

1/2 cup butter
1 cup buttermilk, divided
4 eggs
4 TBS cocoa
2 cups sugar
4 TBS red food coloring
1 tsp. soda
1/2 cup shortening
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 cups flour
1/4 tsp. salt

1 Box powdered sugar
4 TBS whipping cream
1 cup margarine, soft
1/2 cup shredded coconut
1 tsp. Vanilla
Red food Color

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour three 9-inch cake pans. Cream butter, shortening and sugar. Add eggs one at a time. Combine flour, soda, salt and cocoa and gradually add to butter mixture, alternating with buttermilk. Add vanilla and food coloring and blend well. Pour into prepared pans and bake 25-30 minutes. Cool and frost.

Blend powdered sugar, margarine, vanilla and whipping cream with mixer until smooth and fluffy. Additional cream may be needed to achieve fluffy consistency. Frost layers and assemble. Tint coconut with red food coloring and sprinkle over top. Sides of this cake are not frosted.
